Pros: Great bass, almost makes up for not using a subwoofer.
Cons: Doesn't go quite as low as a sub so there are missing notes.
The Bottom Line: Great compromise between price and bass without the loss of rear fill. No compromise, as I later found out! German quality makes them durable and clean sounding.

| neofusion's Full Review: MB Quart DKC 169 Coaxial Car Speaker |
Where's all that bass coming from? That's what my friends asked me when I installed these speakers along with a trusty MTX amp and Kenwood Excelon headunit. For a coaxial 6x9 this puppy can put out some great smooth, musical bass as well as bumpin' bass for those cruises on Sunset Blvd.! Basically, it provides a good balance between the two while providing something no sub can give you, rear fill. This describes a system that provides vocals from the rear of the car, balancing out the front. Although many people debate whether or not this is good or bad, it all comes down to a matter of taste. I like it. There is a concert hall feeling to hearing the music come at you from all around your head. However, if you could care less about that, you are definitely better off with the subwoofer, since it will definitely play lower frequencies and push alot more air!
In summary, these speakers are great for those who like rear fill and would still like to have some bass to support those high notes. Good luck and good music!
Note: I'm not giving them 5 stars because there are better ways (also more expensive) to get rear fill and bass, but these are just excellent for the average music lover on a budget.
UPDATE:
It's been two years and I'm happy to say that these speakers have actually wound up being better than what I thought in my original review. After about 6 months of learning how to use my headunit I discovered that I could set the rears as non-fading and adjust them through the amp's gain and bass boost controls. This control allowed me to really bring out the bass from these puppies. In fact, many of my passengers have asked me what kind of sub I use because of the punchy low notes coming from these marvelous speakers. Although a real sub will go lower and louder, I don't think I'll ever switch because these things give off more than enough for me and my musical tastes, which include rap, hip-hop, alternative, and electronica. So you could save yourself the money and trunk space and just pick up a pair of these truly remarkable speakers!
