Pros: Lots of variety, cute group bonding, allows freedom of expression.
Cons: Some outfits are a bit revealing/trashy. They can be quite costly.
The Bottom Line: Some may find them risque' and some may find them crude. Others think they are just another fad. Whatever your take, they're here to stay and kids adore them.

| RCarte2000's Full Review: MGA Entertainment Bratz Doll |
Cloe, Yasmin, Sasha, Meyghan, Dylan, Eitan, Jade.... just a few of the wild children of the local toy aisle of your favorite store. By now you've seen them at some point, I'm sure. If you haven't, you must be totally blind. If you have seen them, you may love them, or you may wish you were blind, depending on your take of them and how much you've really seen.
They are Bratz and they are the rave with girls of all ages from near and far. A mixture of look, style, and attitude, these kids are everything any preppy school kid wishes to be. They are the "in crowd" of the school years. They are the kids that everyone wants to be with. Likewise, they are the toy that all the girls want to have more and more of. It's a fad, a trend, an addiction... you can't just have one Bratz doll or set.... you must have more and more and more. It's truly Barbie gone wild.
What Makes Bratz So Different?
If you take a closer look at these Girls with a Passion for Fashion, you'll see that they are not your average doll. They are dolls with oversized heads, makeup caked on thick, huge eyes, and the hippest clothes around. Barbie just thinks she's stylin.... she's got nothing on Bratz gals.
If you've ever played with or had to dress a Barbie doll, one of your biggest complaints has to be the little shoes that are always getting lost or the fact that those little shoes just won't fit or stay on Barbie's feet. That is not a problem with Bratz. They don't have removable shoes. They have removable feet! The feet snap on and off. Sure, they can still be lost. As a matter of fact, my stepdaughter lost two pair of feet. However, they are not as easily lost as Barbie's shoes and they are much easier to locate that Barbie's shoes.
Going back to the notion of clothes for a moment, Bratz clothes are wild and crazy. Sure, there are some outfits that are sort of "mild" but most are tres chic to say the least. These girls sport some clothes that would make Barbie blush! Can you imagine a doll wearing a thong? If you can't, try dressing a Bratz doll. You'll quickly see it.
Bratz Come In All Shapes And Sizes
It's a fad that keeps going like the Energizer Bunny. Just when you think one stage of Bratz is fading, another comes out to revitalize the rave. There are girl and boy Bratz dolls shown as pre-teen to teenage years. There are also Baby Bratz featuring the logo, before they were Bratz, they were Bratz Babies. These little ones are absolutely adorable, but still stylish and flashy. The heads of the babies are even bigger than that of the teens, but they are oh, so adorable. I actually prefer the babies over the older Bratz and my youngest daughter seems to as well.
Bratz come in many themes such as Winter, Funk Out, Dynamo, Rock Angelz, and many more. Bratz have their own vehicles such as motorcycles and limos and Bratz have their own spaces such as beauty salons, malls, cribz, and phone booths. Bratz have truly taken over the world.
They're Everywhere!
You won't just find a few dolls, some clothing, and some accessories in the stores. You'll find Bratz in nearly every department you look with the exception of the men's department, at least for now. Bratz are on sleeping bags and bedding, children's clothing and shoes, toothbrushes and toothpaste, bubble bath, candy, videos/dvd's, video games, cameras, televisions, posters, books, school supplies... they are everywhere!
It's nothing for a child to want Bratz outfits, snacks, toiletries, school supplies, toys, and sleepwear. Bratz can drive you crazy. There is now a Bratz cartoon on the FOX network on Saturday mornings at 9:30am EST. If the look isn't enough for you, tune in and hear the attitude and then wonder where your kids get it from!
How Much Do You Want This Time?
Perhaps the major downfall of Bratz is the price you pay. There are the Lil' Bratz dolls that are only a couple of inches tall, but still price between $6-$7 depending upon where you purchase them. Their clothing runs $3-$5 per pack as well. Their home is around $25 and their car is about $10.
Then there are the Bratz babies that run around $8-$10 and also have clothing around $5 per pack. They have homes and accessories as well, ranging between $8-$25 depending upon what you purchase and where you find it. The average Bratz doll is about $15 and there are some that go up to $30. The accessories range from $5-$25. As I said before, kids can't have just one doll. They must have more and more and more and Bratz can ruin a paycheck, especially around the holidays.
A Final Word On Bratz
They are girls with a passion for fashion alright. Your child may find herself wanting to dress and act just like them. Good thing? Bad thing? That's up to you as a parent. As for my household, we have no problem with the girls having these toys and playsets, but we don't take it too far. They don't have every doll out there (although they'd love to) and they don't take it out of hand with the attitude. At that point, we may have to rethink the collection.
I must say that we were truly shocked when we purchased a Bratz Big Baby Cloe for my stepdaughter's 10th birthday. The doll was totally adorable and even came with a little toy pig which seemed innocent enough. The first time my stepdaughter undressed the doll, we saw that this toddler was complete with a black thong. It was a bit shocking and I found it odd for a baby to wear a thong, but such are the times that we live. My four year old received Bratz Big Baby Yasmin and she had a diaper on. I suppose even MGA makes differences between blondes and brunettes.
The dolls are cute, to a point. The toys are a way for girls to express themselves more than Barbie ever allowed, and they are built a little less perfect than miss prim and proper Barbie. They have cool hangouts and rides, stylish outfits, and endless variety. Toys have taken on a new meaning since these guys and gals came to be. They're Bratz and I don't see them splitting anytime soon.
