| cntaur5's Full Review: MGA Entertainment Bratz: Sasha |
I purchased the MGA Entertainment Bratz: Sasha for my 7-year-old daughter who has a relatively nice doll collection. Our recent acquisition has been enjoyed on a regular basis since Christmas 2002. Each year there is a new craze in doll world, and last year MGA Entertainment Bratz were the talk of the town.
Initially I thought the Bratz dolls were marketed to teenagers, with their stylish outfits and flashy. But the 10 inch Bratz can be enjoyed by children ages 5 and up depending upon their level a maturity. Like Barbie, the Bratz collection comes with a little history and personality, including four cool girlfriends with a "passion for fashion." Sassy Sasha is ready to accost you with her funky attitude and flashy fashion.
Although I did not disclose this to my daughter, I initially thought Sasha had a huge head. After looking at her in the box I wondered why anyone would buy a doll with such a huge head and a painted face? When I was growing up, we would have quickly called her Jug Head, however it appears that having the big head is in fashion.
I also thought Sasha had a wicked look, but to my daughter her look is cool. Every since she has been in the 1st grade I feel like the word cool is substituted for everything. Sasha is a light coco colored doll with spectacular supermodel makeup and hair to die for. Her black soft satin like hairbrushes with ease. Sashas features are unique with her full lips and red lipstick with arched eyebrows that are arched like she just left the hair salon. The only thing not proportioned on Sasha is her head, which Ive already noted.
Sasha has soft rubbery arms bendable arms, which can be moved with ease. Her legs support her well and she can stand on flat surfaces without assistance once positioned into place. Sasha is on the cutting edge of fashion with her flair leg pants and royal purple platform shoes. Unlike Barbie and the more traditional dolls Sashas feet come off! Yikes! My daughter says with joy, Dont worry Dad her feet are not broke, this is how she changes her shoes. Fortunately Sasha comes with another pair of funky gold platforms boots.
Sasha also comes with a few spring accessories including two pairs of snap-on oversize platform boot like shoes, two bell bottom pants, two tops, and a purple hairbrush. So far my daughter has kept of with the clothes and enjoys changing her out fits. Despite the clothing being small, the Velcro really helps with changing her clothing allowing my daughter to further develop her fine motor skills.
Its been almost 3 months of play and so far so good, Sasha has held up to all of my daughters challenges. She has gone outside while riding in my daughters pink basket on her bike. Sure she fell off her bike a few times but nothings broken on either of them. Sasha has taken several bathes and her hair has bounced back holding its shape and texture without falling out. When it comes to durability this doll is strong and is put together well.
Sasha comes with creative realistic clothes with cool designs. Sasha is an inclusive doll made for parents and children looking for a little diversity in their collection. Being this different has its downside but also its rewards, as Sasha stands out as a risqué fashion icon, its not like you are not buying a toy. In our house there are no catfights, Sasha gets along with her Barbie, in fact they are best friends.
I would not recommend it for ages under 5 due to childrens tendency to put things in their mouth. Honestly, Im the only person who had to get passed Sashas huge head, bottom line my daughter enjoys playing with her. Sasha's fashion my be risque for adults, but the kids love it, plus they'll grow out of it. Hopefully this doll will last for a long, long time so when my daughter gets older I can remind her of the things she use to play with as a child.
This affordable doll is a good value for the money and its almost everywhere. We purchased ours at Walmart, but Ive seen it at TOYSRUS, and other Department stores.
