A few months ago my youngest daughter, 9, received the MGA Entertainment Lil Bratz Mall Fashion Friendz-y Clothing Store and a couple other items from the Fashion Mall line. As indicative by the name, this line includes various shops and accessories that allow your child to create a mall for the Lil' Bratz line. The Lil Bratz, miniature versions of the original BRATZ doll line, are approximately 4 ˝" tall. They have interchangeable clothing and shoes.
The MGA Entertainment Lil Bratz Mall Fashion Friendz-y Clothing Store is intended as an add-on set for the MGA Entertainment Lil' Bratz Fashion Mall Playset. However it offers enough accessories to offer solo play fun. This set retails for approximately $19.99, versus the $47.99-$69.99 affixed to the Fashion Mall Playset. The main structure has pegs on the side, allowing it to hook onto other storefronts - Strut-It Shoe Store, Kiss & Make-Up - Make-Up Store, Funk Out! Music Store, or the Chill-Out Café/Movie Theater. The storefronts can be stacked and connected, or positioned beside each other.
Unfortunately this set doesn't include a doll, therefore a separate purchase is necessary or existing ownership of a Lil Bratz doll. The main structure is primarily shades of purple. It has a front canopy, back canopy, poster frames & posters, ceiling lamps, mannequins, a shelf with hangers, a dressing room with a curtain, a full-length mirror, an open/close sign, and clothing for the Lil Bratz.
My daughter was initially quite fond of the sets, leaving them set up and playing with them daily. She enjoyed positioning the accessories and having her Lil Bratz dolls shop. A minor irritation is that the slightest bump causes the accessories to tumble over. Her Dad offered to super-glue the items in place, however she was offended by the idea. Although she continues to play with the line, the initial interest slightly dwindled, resulting in the sets becoming a bin storage toy line.
Although the manufacturer recommends this set for children 4 and up, I feel it is best intended for young girls 6 - 10 years of age. There are multiple small parts, that would likely become quickly lost by the youngest crowd (4 & 5). These tiny parts are a choking hazard; the manufacturer warns against allowing this to be used by children under 3.
Because the entire set is durable and interest still remains, I extend a four-star rating and a recommendation for purchase. But it is my view that this set is not a good gift choice, unless you know that the recipient has the MGA Entertainment Lil' Bratz Fashion Mall Playset or that the person is a Lil Bratz enthusiast. If your child is pleading for the Fashion Mall, this set is a less expensive alternative, that offers somewhat similar features. All things considered, I feel that this is a fad toy that will not be on the market long.
