I recently purchased the Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 in Cherry Red at my local Staples store. I was replacing a Logitech Wireless Mouse that had simply stopped working! I chose the Microsoft 4000 because it was on sale and because the Staples associate recommended it as a good, standard mouse. I didn't need frills or anything special, just a mouse that was easy to set up and use and that's what I got!

The Microsoft 4000 Wireless Mouse
I love that this mouse has no cord! I have totally gotten used to being cord free and this was a feature I did have to have in a new mouse. To set up this mouse, I simply plugged the Nano Transceiver into a USB port on my computer and add one AA battery to the mouse itself. The computer did the rest of the work itself and in a matter of minutes, I was able to simply use the mouse. It doesn't get any easier than that!
The Transceiver itself is very small, measureing less than an inch on any side. It does require a devoted USB hub but this is not a problem on my computer as I have several to spare. The mouse itself is on the small side but this is perfect for me. It fits beautifully in my hand and feels comfortable to use. My mouse is red on top though I understand other colors can be purchased. The day I was in Staples, this was the only color available in stock and I was not leaving the store without a mouse so could not afford to be too picky! The sides of the mouse and the middle section with the scroll wheel are black. The sides have a textured, grip feel to them so that the mouse does not slip out of my hand.
The Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 has 4 buttons on it. It has the standard "right" and "left" buttons on the front though they are built in as seamless so you cannot actually see the button. In between, is a scroll wheel/button. Push the button and a the scroll arrow appears on the screen and you can scroll by simply moving the mouse up or down. Otherwise, you can "push" or "pull" the wheel to get it to scroll easily up or down the page. The fourth button is on the left side of the mouse and is used as a "back" button. While browsing webpages, you can simply push the button to go back a page. This is a handy feature as you don't need to work the cursor to the top of the page each time just to go back a page.
I have found the Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 to be a handy, easy to use mouse. It is not fancy nor showy but it does exactly what I need it to do. The "back" button is the biggest "frill" on the mouse, in my opinion and though I didn't need it as a feature, I have gotten used to using it.
The Transceiver used by this mouse is very small. This is good as long as you don't lose it! I have nver had a problem as I simply leave it in the computer all the time. Being so small, it never gets in the way. An older mouse I had had a much larger transceiver and not only did the transceiver get knocked around, it also got knocked out of the computer on occasion. This one is so small, that there really is a lot less chance and I have never had it happen. If you do take the transceiver out of the computer, the mouse itself actually has a place on the underside of it, next to the battery compartment, where you can safely store it.
This Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 takes only 1 AA battery. I have been using the mouse for about 4 months now and have found that I have not yet needed to change the battery. The box claims that the battery will last 10 months! My family and I use the computer and mouse a lot and I feel that, based on past experiences, even 4 months is a good battery life length. If it lasts a full 10 months, that will be a bonus, in my opinion. The last mouse I had needed 2 batteries and they lasted only 2-3 months each time so I feel that I am already way ahead of the game with this mouse. There is an on/off switch on the bottom of the mouse that is supposed to be used to conserve battery life. I have never used it to turn off the mouse but this does not seem to be a problem.
I would recommend this Microsoft Wireless Mobile Mouse 4000 for any computer user. I use it on a Windows driven computer but it claims to also work just fine for Mac computers as well. It is a great mouse at a great price and I am really enjoying it!
