Pros: Good feature set
Low cost
Light Weight
Cons: Grip Unusable with normal/large hands
Plastic construction
The Bottom Line: Nice camera, but the grip is so small I'd never keep it for long. Lightweight makes packing a breeze. Small hands? You'll love it.

| augustz's Full Review: Konica Minolta Dynax 5 35mm Film Camera |
The Minolta Maxxum 5 is certainly a tempting camera, Popular Photography in the most recent edition raved about it. The fact is, you DO get the most bang for your buck at the entry price level, which is where the Maxxum 5 sits.
It's got some really nice features, including Depth of Field preview which is not always that common on entry level SLR's.
Before running out to buy one of these cameras however, go to a store and hold it in your hands. Unless you are a smaller women or a child I suspect you will find the grip is incredibly tiny. Compared to some of my nikon's for example I could barely get an even reasonable grip on the camera. You might think you could change your grip from a classic camera grip to an under the lens grip or something else. Not so fast. The M5 has a ton of features that require proper hand placement to use.
Along with the INCREDIBLY tiny grip this thing has it always really skimps on the battery power, probably in an effort to keep the grip size down. Bring them spares.
Otherwise a sexy camera, Minolta is under-rated for what they produce.
