This camera is excellent for starters. I got this 2 years ago and love this camera. No complaints. I shot lot of pictures from "Maid of Mist" in Niagara falls. Nothing happened. The lens is all tight and no water seeps in. Great pictures. Was able to see the mist with the falls clearly. The camera is robust and has good features. If you are a starter the auto mode works perfect.
About the only disadvantages might be the price of it now compared to what i paid 2 years ago :-). Well there is no panoramic option. But how many of us do that daily. So for fun and starters it is good starting point. Once you get a feel for SLR, then go for Nikon 85 or any top of the line in Minolta.
