Pros: Strong signal, clear voice, easy to use and setup
Cons: Static!
The Bottom Line: It appears I am the only one saying there is a static problem. If you can return it, try it! If it works, for the money it's a good deal.
psimon's Full Review: MOTOROLA H505 BLUETOOTH HEADSET
I was recently in the market for another Bluetooth headset. The volume from the one I had was kind of low and I had trouble hearing the party I was talking to. I realized I needed to do something so I investigated what was available.
I came across the Motorola H505 headset. As headsets go it was rather inexpensive; $18. This was purchased as an OEM unit (sold in a plastic bag as opposed to a box). The headset came with nothing more than the charger and the instruction sheet.
The H505 uses a standard charger with a mini-USB connector. This is an advantage as there are many devices that also use the mini-USB charger. It is much better to have a common connector than a proprietary type charger. This is a plus.
There is a flexible earpiece that can be switched so it can be used on either the left or right ear. It is rigid on the top and flexible as it gets to the end. To change ears, it is unclipped, flipped and reattached. Set up was a breeze. All I did was turn on the headset and then put the phone in the discovery mode. The phone immediately found the headset and added it to its list of Bluetooth devices.
Using it is very easy. There are only 3 buttons on the unit. The Power / Call button, Volume up and Volume down. That's it. There is a blue lamp that lights while charging and goes on when the charge is completed. When the device is connected, the blue indicator flashes every few seconds to acknowledge the connection.
As to actual functionality, volume level is very good. It is much louder than the last one I had. That is a good thing. Sound quality is very good. The voices sound as good (or as bad) as they do when using the straight phone.
My major complaint, and it isn't a small one, is there are reception problems. It s not an issue of range. I can leave my phone downstairs in one corner of the house and go through the entire house with no change in the quality. It's really an issue of static. No matter how far I was from the phone, whether it was on the desk right in front of me, or like I said, at the other end of the house, there was static. Not a consistent static, but static none the less. Though very annoying, it did not keep me from keeping my conversation going... but that isn't the point. There should be NO static at all. Consequently, this headset loses points in my book.
In conclusion, everything about this headset is good, except the static issue. To me that is a deal breaker. Whether this is a systemic problem for all of the H505 headsets, or I just got a bad one, I'll never know. It appears from other reviews here that it may just be mine. Fortunately, it was only $18 so it isn't a major investment, but that isn't the point. You should get exactly what you want and it should work perfectly. Like I said, this one doesn't! You choose!
