What I have noticed about the battery is that battery life bar isn't exactly correct if you pull the charge cord out too early. For example, one time I plugged in the charger and then 5 minutes later I unplugged it but the battery life bar said it was full(3 bars when it was only 1 before). I've also read somewhere that it only takes about 1 hour to fully charge after the first charge but that's false. It takes about 3 hours to fully charge on my phone. For awhile I was only charging it for 1 hour and then believing the full battery life bar when I disconnected it. That maybe the problem for some of you who complain about short battery life.

What also helps is if you reduced the backlight auto shutoff time to the lowest setting, which is 5 seconds. It turns back on the instant you press any button so why have the backlight linger for so long killing battery life? This would only be bad for people who surf the web or read for long periods of time on their cell phone without pressing a button, which I never do.

Lastly for those of you stuck with the phone and still think the battery life is too short then there is always the larger battery. Sure, it makes the phone thicker but it'll still fit in your pocket. Just something to think about if you can't afford another phone just yet.

Dust under display (Reply to this comment)
by insanityplea
I've been having a problem with dust getting under the display. I've had the phone for about 6 months now, and more and more dust has accumulated since I bought the phone. In bright light, especially sunlight, the display is very difficult to read. According to other people on the internet, this isn't happening to my phone alone; it's a fairly common problem for the T720. Motorolla's quality assurance must not be very good.

Re: Colour vs battery? (Reply to this comment)
by lambchops
Honestly in making my decision, I didn't really care one way or another about color. And when I settled on the T720 my most basic worry was that it was at least equal in batterly life to my old StarTac. The sales guy said it was, and sure enough all these months later it is.

The only reason I ended up with color is because it was pretty. And free. Had the phone not been free or just $50 I probably wouldn't have ended up with it. I do in fact like eye candy. Yes, as far as some things go am I indeed that simple.

Sorry to not have a more detailed response. Just being honest here.

Thanks for the thoughtful comment.

Colour vs battery? (Reply to this comment)
by knilaus
Thanks for sharing your experiences with the T720 with us. I think you've written a comprehensive review that deals with most of the issues a prospective buyer of a T720 would want to know about.

I am however at the moment slightly puzzled by the fact that so many people seem to fancy colour displays for their mobile phones without being able to state any real reasons for their fascination. For example, you state in your review that you do not use the built-in browser, and this was the only area which I could think of where a colour screen would make any real difference.

Perhaps people simply want colour as a kind of eye candy, which will allow them to personalise their phone like the changeable covers that were so popular last year?

Personally, I've decided against a colour screen and in favour of battery longevity. My T39m does not have any of the bells and whistles of the more recent "toy phones" and I regret to have to assume that it will probably be one of the last phones that does not try to be a personality booster, PDA, browser, GameBoy and MP3-player all by itself.

I would be interested to hear your detailed take on the advantages of a colour screen vs the downside of reduced battery time now that you have grown even more experienced with the T720?

Happy writing!

Not on drugs. Honestly...it's comparable if not better than my StarTac (that I owned from 2000-2002). Sorry you don't like your T720...

Must have a different T720 (Reply to this comment)

You must be on drugs if you think the battery life on this phone is better then the non-color LCD screen of the Startec. I bought this phone and the battery life is horrible. I should have read the other reviews but those "so called" experts said you were so trusted.
