When I was given my kit when I was diagnosed as a Diabetic, the lancets that were included were the MPD Ultra Thin Purple Lancets. I didn't have a choice, but I'm glad these were the ones I received.
If you've read my other reviews on products included in my kit, you'll have gathered that I'm a weenie. I hate needles and hate the thought of having to poke my finger 2-3 times a day to check my sugar. Even now, a couple of months later, my heart still leaps into my chest right before I push that button to poke my finger. A deep breath helps some.
The MPD Ultra Thin Purple Lancets that I have, come in a white box with purple lettering. There are 100 lancets included. They are also offered in 200 or 5000 in quantity.
Upon removing a MPD Ultra Thin Purple Lancet from the box, they are 1 1/4" long, including the circle piece that twists off, which is covering the sterile tip. They're only about 1/4" thick, with a "X" pattern for a no-slip easy grip. The tip itself, which is GAMMA sterilized, when the cover is removed, is barely 1/8" long. This helps control the depth of the poke. If you don't use a lancet device, you still can only jab yourself so far before you hit the plastic case. The tri-bevel point on the tip helps keep your skin from tearing, as well as makes the poke less painful by starting with a small poke and gradually increasing in size.
MPD Ultra Thin Purple Lancets can be used with or without a lancet device. I prefer to use them with, as my fingers are sensitive and bleed pretty easily. They help control the force used, and the depth you are poked, more easily than you could by holding it in your fingers. The plastic casing is firm and easy to grip, however, so the device isn't a must. Some that the MPD Ultra Thin Purple Lancets fit in are:
~Autolet II
~Auto-Lancet
~B-D
~Soft Touch
~Dialet
~Freestyle
~Hemalet
~Hypo-Let
~Miscolet
~Monojector
~Penlet
~Penlet II
~Quik-Let
~Ultra-Soft
All in all I have been very happy with the MPD Ultra Thin Purple Lancets. I've had the chance to switch, but didn't bother. They're thin and easy to use. I've had other lancets used on me and these, by far, have less pain with them.
One thing to keep in mind. MPD Ultra Thin Purple Lancets are sharp and should not be dropped into your regular household trash. They're single use, and need to be tossed, but you should keep them separate from your regular trash. I bought a Rubbermaid bowl with a lid and use that as my shapes container. It's kept up and away from where it could get knocked over or a child could get into it. I can add the lid and toss it when it's full. Because the MPD Ultra Thin Purple Lancets are so small, it takes quite a few of them for that to happen.
