Pros: Price. Easy starting. Handles 10" of snow.
Cons: chute and drive controls not easily accessible. Somewhat loud.
I purchased this snow thrower from Home Depot just before the first large snowfall this season. I was looking for a 2-stage blower for less than $600. My cost was $549 + $25 for assembly.
The snow thrower starts easily, usually on the first pull and warms up quickly. Throws 10" of NEW snow 12 to 15 feet with no problem. Traction is good but tire chains will be a definite improvement.
My driveway is approx 100' long and 25' wide. A shear bolt broke during first use (extra's are supplied) and the auger belt snapped later in the season. I attribute both of these breakages to the fact that stones from my unpaved driveway got caught-up in the auger drive. Lowering the skid shoes helps to some extent.
The chute and speed controls are located below the operator panel and require constant bending to change. It may be worth the extra money to purchase a model that has these controls at chest level. Noise level is also a bit loud. Good machine for the price but my next thrower will be more high-end.
