| BryRrose's Full Review: Maalox Max Liquid Maximum Strength Antacid Plus An... |
A few years ago I began to have esophageal spasms. At first, I did not know what they were. All I knew was I had a crushing pain and I felt like an elephant had decided to sit down on my chest while I was laying on a rock. I made several trips to the Emergency Room to find the cure.
The wonderful doctors gave me several preventative solutions to help with the spasms. But they continued. One visit a doctor suggested that I try Maalox.
My husband, the ever so eager shopper went to the store for me. When he returned I saw him pull out this red and white bottle with a cherry on it from the bag, it was Maalox Max Liquid Maximum Strength Antacid Plus Antigas Cherry Flavor. I about cried. I remember as a child taking cherry cough medicine and cherry cough drops., eeeeww cherry is not my favorite flavor. I smiled and said thank you.
I then put the bottle of Maalox in the cabinet "just in case". One night my husband and I were enjoying a movie and I started to get a sign that I spasm might be coming. I immediately got up and opened the cabinet that contained the cherry flavored Maalox. I said to my self, "Suck it up BryRrose, do you really want that elephant lounging around on your chest?"
I opened the Maalox, looked at its white chalky color, gave a little sniff. I was surprised that the Maalox had a slight cherry odor too it and I thought that I actually could take it. Bravely, I decided it was time and took a big swig. Very important: I do not recommend taking a "swig", I would suggest reading the directions and abide by the manufactures suggested dosage, which is 2-4 teaspoons for children over 12 years old and adults. After I swallowed, I thought that it was not that bad. The cherry flavor did not taste like the strong cherry flavor of the cough medicine or cough drops, it was very mild.
I was very surprised that the little "swig" that I took really helped. I avoided a spasm. From that day on I would not go anywhere without my little red and white bottle. Maalox has not been a fool proof way of getting rid of my esophageal spasms, but it has been a comfort.
I have used Maalox on other occasions when I have had an upset stomach or just felt bloated. It has definitely come through for me. I highly recommend giving it a try.
Many people might ask if there are any side effects. Well I have had two side effect:
1. RELIEF
2. Diarrhea. If I take more than one dose a day, I have problems with diarrhea the next day. I believe this is because the product contains Sorbitol. Despite the diarrhea, I will still take the Maalox when I need it because a little diarrhea is better than the pain.
