ms_pookie's Full Review: Mac Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation
I rarely venture into the World of Cosmetics. Ill hang around the fringes with lotions, creams, and nail polishes but rarely do I dare to enter the mysterious world of cosmetic products. Just because I have two X chromosomes in my genetic makeup doesnt mean I know what to do with all the powders, foundations, liners, glosses, etc!
Ive tried a few powder foundations with a goal to help control my oily skin. Then I started noticing the reddish undertone in my complexion. My search then changed to find something that could control the oil and provide some color assistance to my complexion.
Enter my fashion and cosmetic savvy cousin
We went shopping together in San Francisco and were browsing around Union Square. We entered Macys and there was a little MAC counter on the corner, so she started to browse through their products. I was completely lost. She suggested I try the Studio Fix she probably figured her geeky older cousin could use some help in the cosmetic department! The lady working at the MAC counter helped me find the appropriate shade from the vast array of shades. She applied the foundation to half of my face and left the other half untouched. Then she gave me the mirror. Oh my goodness! What a difference!
Heres my venture into the World of Cosmetics!

Lifting from the rim of the foundation reveals the third area, which is where the application sponge lies.

My Experience
After the lady from the MAC counter applied the foundation to half of my face, she gave me a mirror and I took a look. Wow! It was amazing how even my skin tone looked (on half of my face!). She took the mirror back and applied foundation to the rest of my face and gave me the mirror again. It was simply amazing how the foundation evened up my skin tone, covered some minor blemishes, and made my skin look absolutely beautiful.
Now Im not one to like the feeling of having anything coat my face. I like my face to feel fresh and free. The Studio Fix foundation does not weigh my face down; theres no feeling of suffocating foundation coating my face. I love its lightness!
Ive been applying the Studio Fix with a brush. The lady at the MAC counter said that this would extend the powder and at $23 a pop, Im going to do all I can to extend its life. Ive been using the same compact for five months now and there is still plenty of powder in the compact. The lady also said that the application sponge should be changed after a few months, but since I dont use it for application, I havent changed it since purchasing the foundation.
I have had no adverse reactions such as breakouts since using the foundation. Before applying the foundation, I wash my face and make sure its nice and clean. Then I apply the foundation with a brush and wipe away any excess foundation (usually I coat my eyebrows with the foundation powder by accident). I dont reapply during the day. I find that the foundation stays on well, is long lasting, and helps to absorb the oil on my skin, leaving my skin looking matte throughout a good portion of the day.
MAC Studio Fix is definitely worth the $23 if oil-free skin and an even complexion is desired.
