Ingredients: Dimethicone, Cyclomethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate, Macadamia Temifolia Seed Oil, Argania Spinosa (Argan)Kernel Oil, Parfum/Fragrance, Benzyl Salicylate, Hexylcinnamal, Butylphenyl Methypropional, Coumarin, Linalool, Limonene
The Macadamia Healing Oil treatment combines Argan Oil (more commonly referred to as Moroccan Oil because of the popular brand http://www.moroccanoil.com/en/ and the fact that argan trees are native to Morocco) and Macadamia Oil. Both of these oil are supposed to be very good for your hair (and skin - but there's different 100% organic/pure products geared specifically for use on skin). Check out the company's site (http://www.macadamiahair.com/discover/) for additional details about its' benefits. This is a 'dry oil' - which is different from traditional oils that have a runny texture can can get greasy. The texture of this dry oil is very similar to a serum. This Healing Oil Treatment can be applied to hair for 'styling and finishing' by working a small amount into damp or dry hair.
I have been using this oil in my hair for a few months now. This is the only brand of argan oil that I have used so consistently (my hair stylist uses Moroccan Oil brand on my hair after cut/before blowout) but I have not gotten around to using their products yet (they are on my very long list of things to try). So I obviously cannot compare this to other brands but what I do like about Macadamia is that it is readily available at a lot of stores (drugstores like CVS, Ulta and other stores that carry hair styling products). It is also not too expensive and completely worth what you pay for! And I like that this comes in a variety of sizes - I have a big one that I keep at work and a small .34 oz bottle ($6.50 for the small and $13 for the 1 oz.) at work. They have other products such as shampoos and a hair mask (I have heard great things about the mask).
My hair is pretty damaged from lots of heat styling and I love this because it keeps it looking moisturized and healthy so only I know about the damage. It is also helping the condition of my hair since it keeps it moisturized, protected and less prone to breakage & split-ends. No product will actually FIX your split-ends so the best thing to do is trim regularly and protect hair from future damage with products like this. It tames down the fly-aways I get when leaving my hair in its naturally wavy state or when curling. And it DOES NOT weigh down my hair or make it look greasy AT ALL. I have experimented with over-applying to see if it starts looking oily but it doesn't.
This oil has a light pleasant somewhat nutty smell to it. It is not overpowering and will not last that long but I do like the way my hair and hands smell right after using it
How I use it...
FYI: I have med-long hair a few inches past my shoulder and I shampoo every other or two days).
I apply a very light-weight leave-in conditioner to my damp hair first - mostly towards the top/crown of my head. and then work a drop of this into each side of my hair - concentrate the ends and then wipe my hands towards the top.
If I am straightening my hair, I let it air dry (this is said to cut down drying time but I will have to pay closer attention to see if it actually does). Spray on a heat protectant and flat iron. Depending on my mood and weather or not my hair is feeling dry, I might apply a little more of this (and/or leave-in condit) to my ends.
If I am leaving wavy/scrunching or curling, I apply a little more of the oil treatment and scrunch. After it dries, add some extra curl with an iron. And finish up with more oil treatment on fly-away areas. When I have my hair wavy, I will almost always apply more of this on 2nd day hair.
I do not like the idea of applying too much product to my hair (esp hair sprays, get, mousse, etc) so this is perfect for me because it leaves no residue and is provides nourishment and styling to my hair in one shot! I do once in a while use a curl enhancer in conjunction with this but not regularly because using a product like that means it will not stay looking fresh as long between washes.
