sparkospunky's Full Review: Macanudo Gold Box of 25
Macanudo is one of the most popular brands of cigars in the world, and the company is well-known for producing a quality stick. I would venture to say most of their smokes are light to medium bodied cigars, but I'm sure that there are types of Macanudos that appeal to the person who seeks a robust, hearty flavor. The cigar that I wish to tell you about today is the Macanudo Gold Tudor, a nice stick that satisfies my craving for subtle flavors absent the overpowering body of certain other cigars.
The Macanudo Gold Tudor is 6 inches long and has a ring size of 52, which makes it comparable to the standard robusto shape. The golden, almost seamless Connecticut shade wrapper envelops long Dominican filler, and the standard Macanudo label is complimented by a ring below it proclaiming it to be a Macanudo Gold cigar. The stick felt solid and the filler appeared to be adequately packed, and overall the appearance was pleasing and well presented.
When I fired this one up, I was impressed by how free and easy the draw was. The burn was even and consistent, and the smoke was creamy and smelled faintly of sweet spices. A nice, long grayish-white ash developed and I was able to get about an inch and a half out of it before it dropped off into my ashtray. The heat from the cigar was even and it didn't get hot towards the end as some cigars are wont to do.
The flavors of the Macanudo Gold Tudor are very delicate--the dominant texture was one of sweetness, but I detected nuances of vanilla, cedar and fruit, all of which were pretty well balanced. When I finished this cigar in a little over an hour, I sensed almost no lingering aftertaste, except for a pleasant sweetness which reminded me of honey.
The Macanudo Gold Tudor pretty much satisfied my taste preferences in cigars. Although a littlebit more pepper would have worked to compliment the sweet flavors present in this stick, the flavors were well presented and I really enjoyed smoking it.
I would classify the Macanudo Gold Tudor and being light to medium bodied. Those of you who prefer a more robust stick probably wouldn't like it, but for me it was a pleasant distraction.
These cigars sell for $6.75 for a single and $140 for a box of 25 at cigar.com. I'll always keep a few in my humidor.
Thanks for reading.
