| penguini's Full Review: Maclaren Twin Traveller - Carbon/Crimson Umbrella ... |
I have three children ages 6, 3, and infant. I purchased a Maclaren Techno when my 2nd was born and loved it so much, that when I was expecting my 3rd, I headed straight for a Maclaren double and got the Twin Traveller. We were not disappointed!
Here are some of the reasons we've really liked this stroller:
It is very compact (on a recent 10 day roadtrip) we managed to fit the Twin Traveller and the Techno along with all our luggage and a huge cooler in the back of our minivan!).
It is lightweight. When touring in Philadelphia, instead of walking around the block to use the wheelchair ramp, my husband and I just lifted the stroller up the steps with our two youngest kids seated in it without much trouble.
It folds easily. I can fold this while holding a squirmy baby in my other hand!
It is sturdy. This stroller has been gatechecked on many airplanes and comes out in perfect shape. We have our 20 pound 10 month old and 35 pound 3 year old seated in it and attach a Buggy Board to it for our 45 pound 6 year old and it shows no sign of stress.
It can be steered one-handed. I have had no problem walking along side the stroller and steering it with one hand while in the mall! This is very convenient when you're trying to carry a drink or food or whatever else with your other hand!
It is suitable for a newborn. Since the two seats are independent of one another, I had no problem with a newborn baby on one side and a then toddler on the other side. Each of the seats reclines completely and has extendable leg rests. As an added bonus, we used the Fisher Price Stay-in-View carseat for the baby and the FP SIV fit perfectly snug in the stroller when it was reclined and with the leg rests extended. Worked great when we didn't want to wake up the baby and was a lifesaver at the airport to be able to put the carseat and baby in the stroller together.
It is narrow enough to fit through doors. We've yet to encounter a door where we could not get through (though we've encountered a couple of doors where it was a pretty tight squeeze).
I can only think of three things that would make this even more perfect: 1) it would be awesome if Maclaren would use the nice foam gripped handles that they used to have on the older Technos; 2) it would be doubly awesome if they used the larger nubby wheels found on the Maclaren Techno - the smaller standard wheels are fine for smooth surfaces, but this stroller does get a bit difficult to push on rough outdoor surfaces like grass and gravel; and 3) if Maclaren could only find some what to make bigger stroller baskets....but then again, for that to happen they'd have to revamp the entire structure of the stroller and we might not want that to happen.
I've read in a couple of places that there are some Twin Travellers out there where the seats were made extremely narrow (though Maclaren doesn't admit it) - so much so that kids older than infants would not fit. I've not had a problem with the one I have - my 3 year old fits fine in it - even my 6 year old fits in it. It is possible that they did have a bad lot of them at some point, so the buyer should definitely check out the seat width to make sure it is up to standard before purchasing. With all that said, I would highly recommend this stroller. It is pricy, but well worth it.
