Thomas_sweeney's Full Review: Adobe Dreamweaver 4.0 Full Version for PC (DWW40D0...
HTML has to be one of the simplest computer languages to use. It takes no time at all to learn, usually an afternoon is enough to familiarise you with the basics. I've seen 8-year-old kids write half decent web pages armed with nothing more than notepad and a free Internet browser. It therefore strikes me as rather odd that packages such as Dreamweaver exist at all.
Why I hate Dreamweaver
[Resisting the urge to just write "CRAP' 500 times]
Well to begin with, the HTML WebPages it produces are more often than not bloated with unhelpful comments and superfluous code (no doubt inserted to impress the HTML layman). Even making a simple page with no more than a few links, some text and an image link produces an HTML file the size of War and Peace.
It isn't easy to use. A popular misconception is that a GUI based HTML editor is easier to get to grips with than a textual based editor. To the beginner this may appear to be the case. Admittedly, viewing an HTML files source for the first time can be rather daunting. However, if you take the time to learn HTML you'll find it to be an extremely simple language to get to grips with.
The biggest disappointment about Dreamweaver is the fact that it's produced by Macromedia, a company I respect for producing well thought out and useful applications. They messed up bad with Dreamweaver though. Avoid!
