amandaw99's Full Review: Adobe Dreamweaver 4.0 Full Version for PC (DWW40D0...
Introduction
Macromedia is fairly well known for the products that help a wide range of web designers create professional looking web pages. If you want to try to make money with your website, make a professional one, or you are wasting your time. The easiest way to do this is with Dreamweaver.
In my opinion, the Dreamweaver software is superiour to others out there. Hopefully my epinion will let you know why. Also, if you're interested, check out my newest webpage, which is "fairly" professional, www.luccafans.com -- after messing with Dreamweaver a little bit, I created this site in total in 5 hours. Not bad, in my opinion.
Advantages
There are many facets to Dreameaver that I believe set it apart from its competitors. The most important one that I found as a beginner, was the help available for beginners. The tutorials and help sections are easy to understand and search, and it really makes the software easy to play around with. The best selling point, however, is the lessons that are part of the help section. There are about 8 lessons to teach the user how to create cool tricks with the software (i.e. menus, or rollover buttons). The lessons come with templates that allow you to manipulate an "existing" webpage step by step as the lesson goes on. It really allows the beginner to learn how to use the software, which I really hated having to do all on my own with other software.
What else does the software offer? Typical stuff, of course. You can easily add Flash buttons (see luccafans.com) those buttons on the left were made with the click of a mouse. A neat feature that I use on the webpage, is where I say last updated on January 22, 2002 - the software, everytime you edit a page and save it, it will make that date the current one. So I don't have to manually change that date everytime, so my visitors know everytime I edit the page.
Another awesome advantage that I see with this software is the ease of uploading files. It can directly connect to my FTP account. It saves all of the files associated with a file in a single folder. If I edit my index.html document, all I have to do is upload the index.html document. Dreamweaver then uploads each picture and file that is associated with the index.html page. That means with the click of the mouse, Dreamweaver updates all the files needed, I don't have to take care of that. It seems like not much of a big deal, but I do deal with a lot of picture files, and this makes my life so much easier.
Also, if you use Macromedia's Fireworks products, as can be expected, the integration is seamless. Macromedia makes it very easy to edit images in Fireworks and then integrate them easily into your site.
DisAdvantages
There aren't many disadvantages that I see with this software, or I would not use it. First and foremost, it is not cheap. You can download a free trial from macromedia.com but then you will have to purchase it. It is worth every penny, though.
Other than that, my only complaint would be the software can seem overwhelming when you first open it if you are not familiar with Macromedia or similar programs. DO THE LESSONS!! It really helps.
Other than that, the final complaint is downloading the free trial is virtually impossible over a modem. I am at school on a LAN, so I haven't had to deal with that lately.
Finally...
If you're looking for a great web page designing software, give dreamweaver a chance. I don't think you will regret it, and if you need any help with it feel free to email me at amandaw33@aol.com (or IM me). Thanks for reading!!!
