It's easy to miss Mae Phim. It's a tiny restaurant, hidden away from the main street. It is worth searching for, as their menu is a wonderful mix of tasty and inexpensive. They carry a wide variety of dishes, but I've only tried a few, because the ones I've ordered have been of such high quality that I find myself re-ordering them.
My personal favourites include the green curry chicken, which has a complexly spicy taste and a generous portion size, and the coconut milk and lemongrass soup with chicken. This pair makes a generous lunch at a startlingly slight price. I've been back many times but haven't found any dishes that I didn't like.
This restaurant gives great food, but doesn't go all out for ambience. The decidedly low-frills decor might be a bit of a turn-off, but stick with it, the food is terrific.
Reservations are unnecessary, and the place is often almost full during lunch hour. If you have an adventurous palate and have a taste for Thai, and aren't afraid to save a few bucks on lunch, check out Mae Phim.
