| sahatch's Full Review: Magellan GPS XL |
I had used the 2000XL around the local area on a limited basis and had found no major problems. However, I recently went on a 2-week hunting trip and took it along. Here are some of the things I found:
- Re-initialization of the unit took over 2 hours of continuous operation, even when punching in exact co-ordinates from another unit. (Essentially moving from one coast to the other)
- Acquisition of signals was poor, especially in cloudy/stormy conditions or with what I would call limited visibility thru the tree cover.
- The owners manual indicates a 24 hour continuous operation battery life ... I was getting low battery indications after about 5 hours, without using the backlight or any other high energy activities.
In short, it may be fine for use in open conditions and sunny weather, but in the cloudy woods a compass is a must!
