afscsg's Full Review: Magellan Maestro 3100 Car GPS Receiver
This unit works well, is simple to use, even without instructions. Unfortunately, it's virtually useless right out of the box, in an area that is continually adding new roads. I just got my 3100 on 2/14/08, and the maps were about 1 1/2 years out of date! I called Magellan, and was told that the unit is now shipped with map version 29 (mine was bought with version 27) and that I could PURCHASE a map upgrade for about $100, or trade it in for another unit and add about $179. Why would I add $100 to a $150 brand new product, making it cost $250, when I could have just spent $250 on a different unit in the first place. To make matters worse, just found out that the 3100 CAN NOT be upgraded with new maps. The download from Magellan for this product is a functionality update, and does not include new maps!!! DON'T BUY THIS UNIT IF YOU NEED UP TO DATE MAPS IN A CHANGING AREA
