Magenta Comes Over To Play

Written: Dec 02 '03
Pros:Fun book with bright pictures of Blue and all her friends.
Cons:None
The Bottom Line: Magenta's Visit is a fun story with educational activities packed into 24 pages.

Anyone who has read my reviews before knows that my 2 year old daughter absolutely adores Blue's Clues and also loves books. Courtney has had a problem of ripping her non board books in the past but she has never ripped her Blue's Clues books. Right now she has 4 Blue's Clues books that are not board books and while they definitely look like they've been read, none of them have a single rip in them. Magenta's Visit is one of these books.

About Magenta's Visit

Magenta's Visit is just one of several books in this particular series of Blue's Clues books. There are several different series out and in this particular series, Magenta's Visit is the first book and was written by Alice Wilder & Michael T. Smith and was illustrated by Traci Paige Johnson & Karen Craig. Magenta's Visit is a soft cover book and is 24 pages long. All throughout the book are bright illustrations of some of our favorite Blue's Clues characters, including Blue, Magenta, Steve, Mr. Salt & Mrs. Pepper, the Felt Friends plus the rest of the gang who live with Steve and Blue.

On the first page is a note to parents which says:

As with all Blue's Clues books, Magenta's Visit was written based on the knowledge that preschoolers learn through everything they do. In exploring the theme of friendship with Blue, children will use thinking skills such as visual perception, association, and problem solving. What does your child like to do when a friend comes over? Try the activities described in this book at their next play date!

Magenta's Visit is all about Magenta coming over to Blue's house to play. Everyone plays Blue's Clues to figure out what is Magenta's favorite thing to do. They go and visit Shovel and Pail and play hide and seek. They visit Mr. Salt and Mrs. Pepper in the kitchen and help them make animals out of food, and they go in the livingroom and help the Felt Friends play dress up. Last but not least they help Tickety figure out what she took pictures of with her camera. While doing all of this, they also find the 3 clues. Our first clue is macaroni, our second clue is a frame, and our third clue is glue. Can you figure out Blue's Clues to find out what Magenta's favorite thing to do is?

Why I Recommend Magenta's Visit

It's very easy to recommend any Blue's Clues item, whether it be a toy, a video or dvd, a book or even the show itself. The whole point of Blue's Clues is learning through fun and Courtney has learned a lot by watching Blue's Clues in the past year and a half. She has also learned a lot with her Blue's Clues toys and books. One of her favorite things to do while looking at her Blue's Clues books is to point out the characters and say their names. Some of them are a little hard for her to say, such as Sidetable Drawer but others, like Blue and Steve, are easy. She also points out other items, like a ball or a doll (which she calls a baby) and says what they are too. I think the fact that she is normally a book ripper and will not rip her Blue's Clues books says it all :-)
