| gaelkm's Full Review: Magic Bullet High Speed Blender Mixer System |
I was sucked into another infomercial recently. (Please see my review of another infomercial I succumbed to - the Pasta Pots). It appears on TV on Saturday or Sunday mornings when I catch it. Somehow the slick people advertising this new kitchen gadget do their job and oh yes, they do it well. They have numerous food items ready to go on plates and they show the viewer how easy it is, for example, to make chicken salad in a matter of seconds, or the fixings for an omelet, a frozen margarita drink, you name it, this gadget makes it with the touch of its Magic Bullet top.
My sons saw that I was fascinated by this device. I guess I'm always looking for ways to cut time in the kitchen. What busy Mom isn't? I've tried other gadgets before. I had a Salad Shooter (remember those?) which was okay, but I never seemed to really get the hang of it. I bought a mini food processor one time and used it occasionally, but it seemed difficult to operate and clean up was a hassle.
The Magic Bullet is so called because of its shape. It looks like a large bullet and is rounded on its top and at its base, hence the name. The top portion is a clear, heavy plastic that screws into the base which is where the blades are. This entire assembly is then placed into the base. After plugging this unit into the wall, and with the ingredients inside and ready to go, you simply press down on the top of the bullet (the clear plastic top) to create the pulsing or chopping. Usually in 3 or 4 pushes, the item(s) are chopped. You can do this, for example, with a fresh onion or garlic, which for me is great because I don't like the smell of garlic on my fingers. Its very easy. There are two types of blade bases, one that is for flat chopping and one for cross chopping.
You also don't want to hold the cup down for longer than a second or two because if you "over-pulse" your food will end up being pureed or turning into mush. There is a recipe for onions, tomatoes, cilantro and jalapeno which when chopped in the Magic Bullet becomes a fresh salsa dip. I can't wait to try that one. I tried the chocolate mousse for the first recipe and it would have turned out well, except that from the manufacturing of the product, there had been a small piece of plastic that somehow was stuck up under the blades. When I used the Magic Bullet it chewed up the little rubber o-ring and my son actually swallowed a piece of that plastic. We were not happy. I had washed everything prior to using it since it is shipped from the factory. After double-checking that there were no more tiny plastic pieces to be found (and my son was okay), I made a fresh strawberry drink, just as another test only, of course. I used some milk, fresh strawberries and a dash of orange juice as a quick recipe of my own. Just a couple of short pulses and I had a delicious sweet and healthy drink. Next, I got out a hunk of cheese and tried grating it up. It worked beautifully and since I wasn't going to use it at the moment, I used one of the re-sealable Magic Bullet lids to store the grated cheese in the fridge. Very handy. I'll probably use it later for quesadillas.
The Magic Bullet is really simple to use and simple to clean up. Being careful of the blades when you wash them in soapy dishwater is about the only thing you have to watch. The blades are similar to blades found on a regular blender.
My sons purchased the Magic Bullet for me at "Linens and Things" for $59.99. On the infomercial it sells for $100.00, so I was happy that my sons got a better deal. It is sturdy and looks like it will last me a long time with a little common sense and care. The base has a good motor that gets the job done quickly and easily. You can also purchase this item from an "As Seen on TV" Store for the same price of $59.99.

As this product claims, it really "does any job in 10 seconds or less."
The following is from the outside of the Magic Bullet box:
Blend and serve frozen party drinks in the same mug. Use to mix, cook and store the ingredients. Everything from refreshing smoothies and cocktails to mouthwatering desserts and party favorites.
Overall, I'm very happy with the Magic Bullet and glad I found something that works as well at home as it appears on TV. From what the other reviews say about this product, it seems as if most people have been happy with theirs too.
