Pros: quick fold, handles decent weight, folds compactly, rolls well
Cons: not for people of any great size
I received the Magna Cart as a gift. As I own no dolly, this product has been fulfilling that role for me. However, it's not really a replacement for a good full-size dolly. It's meant to be a hand truck that can easily be folded down and placed in a car or stowed somewhere unobtrusive. For that purpose, it is nearly ideal.
The only problem I've had with the Magna Cart is a problem I have with almost everything that has a handle: it's too short. I'm six feet tall. Tall for a woman but not particularly tall for a man so you'd think that more things with handles would take that into consideration. But no.
While I'd used the Magna Cart a bit around the house to move moving boxes from one end to the other, the real load test was taking a full load of banker's boxes containing books to be sold at a bookstore. I unloaded the Magna Cart from the back of my caravan. It unfolds rather quickly and easily. The folding and unfolding is tied in to the bottom support shelf. So as soon as you pull that shelf down, the Magna Cart starts unfolding. You can complete the unfolding by pulling the handle up and grabbing the tab from the lower half and locking it into place over the upper half. Then push down the red lock tabs and you're done. It's 5 seconds' work, if that.
The boxes I needed to roll in were very heavy. They were at least half full with large hardbacks and the other half was packed to the gills with trade paperbacks. It handled 3 full banker's boxes just fine. It could possibly have carried more, but the handle only goes up to waist level on me. While toting the Magna Cart the couple blocks to the store, I had to bend over quite a bit in order to get the cart tilted to an angle that would allow it to roll (again because the handle is short relative to my height). Needless to say, this isn't very ergonomic. I had quite a neck/shoulder/backache by the time I got there.
The Magna Cart is composed of aluminum with plastic fixtures. It has a comfy foam cover over the handle. It is sturdy yet light and folds easily. It would be great to take traveling, especially if one is travelling to do light business at a trade show. For someone of about 5'5", it'd be preferable to a dolly in all but the most industrial situations.
