Playback compatibility problem

Pros:Should'I do something after recording so that the disk can play on any DVD.
Cons:Incompatible play back!

I have the MWR 10D6 from Wall Mart. the DVD-R records very well, but I cannot play the recorded DVDs on other players, even on a PC, with DVD player. If anyone knows how to solve this compatibility issue please help me. After a recording session the DVD writes to disc, is there anything that should be done after that for the disc to be universally accepted? I know PCs will request to close or leave open for future writes. This DVD is my first, I am already looking for a better one that can ease this problem for my numerous recordings. No company seems to say what limitations their DVDs have before you buy them.
