| yakkowarner's Full Review: Main Street Cinema - Disneyland |
This is definitely one of the most exciting attractions you will find at Disneyland. Well
that is if you consider the carousel and its a Small World exciting. If you love those two rides then dont forget to check out this attraction on your way in. The rest of you with more adrenaline in your system will be a bit bored.
The one thing I will say with a great deal of confidence, it is definitely more exciting than Golden Dreams. Of course thats not saying much.
How it works.
This is a 6 screen mini-theater. It plays 6 black & white Disney cartoons continuously.
The names (or descriptions) of the films are
1. A cartoon about polo
2. Traffic Trouble
3. Dog Napper
4. The Moose Hunt
5. Steamboat Willy
6. A cartoon about Mickey and Minnie flying in a plane.
(Ill get the names of the other 2 next time Im there in a few weeks.)
Seating.
There are no seats but there is a platform in the middle. The platform is specifically for children, not adults. So if you want to sit down and youre an adult, then you only have the floor.
Location.
Disneyland, Anaheim Ca.
This is located on the east side of Main Street. It will be on your right shortly after you pass the magic store.
Theme.
It is themed like an old movie theatre on the exterior. But thats it. When you get inside it is very dark with no interesting things to talk about, just the cartoons. Although there is a jukebox thing in on the far wall.
And for the teenagers reading this (or the young at heart), sorry there is not good places to make out in here.
Is there a queue line.
There is no wait time or a queue line. And no fast pass.
Height limit and kid friendly.
No height limit. No restrictions.
What equipment does it use?
The theatre uses a Sony NSP-100 player. It is a very expensive multimedia player that stores the information on a hard drive. I found this out when one of the screens displayed the load screen for the player.
The projection screens look like normal backlit projection screens. Some of the screens appear discolored but I have no idea if it is because the screen is old or if the original image has deteriorated. But trust me, you arent coming in here to see quality cartoons.
Hidden Mickeys
Look at the lights on the steps to the platforms. They are shaped like Mickey's head.
Trivia and secrets
This ride opened when the park first opened.
It is rumored that the ticket taker is modeled after Walt's wife. A worker at City Hall that I talked to could not confirm or deny it but she did say that the ticket taker was named after the city that Main Street was named after (Marceline Missouri).
The tickets in the booth are a tribute to the ticket system disney used before they opted to just use the passport system they have today.
Who is this for?
Younger kids or anyone that wants to get off of the crowded Main Street path right when the park opens.
Summary
This is a very simple, and boring, attraction. The animated storefront displays across the street are more complicated than this attraction. The exterior looks like a small Midwest theatre. The inside is a semi-round room with 6 screens with black and white cartoons playing on them. It is a nice little stop to get away from the crowd. And since it is air conditioned, it is a nice place to hide in the middle of summer while waiting for the parade to start. But this is not an attraction you want to hit unless you want to see one of the original attractions in the park.
