This is one of 3 rides on Main Street. The other two are a horseless carriage and a double-decker bus. This is a 26 person capacity carriage pulled by one very strong horse. It is based off of 19th century pictures. The ride travels counter clockwise in both the Plaza and the Square and just goes straight up and down the center of Main Street. During busy days this requires someone walking ahead of the horse to make people move out of the way.
You can wait at either the Central Plaza or Town Square to get on but it is always a one-way ride that fills up fast. If youre concerned about time it is quicker to walk to the other end of Main Street. The stop in Town Square is on the southern most part of the island. The stop in Central Plaza is in the northern center of that island.
The ride does stop to make way for the parade floats.
About the horse
I asked the driver if he had any trivia about the ride and he didnt. But he did tell me about the history of the horse and his experience. First off in order to be a driver you have to have experience with horses. If you dont then you cant run this attraction. If fact he told me that regular workers cant even set foot on the 6 Acre ranch. But you can see the ranch from the parking garage, just get to the 4th or 5th level and look towards Toon Town and the ranch will be next to it. Its pretty exciting, if you think looking at horses standing is exciting.
This driver had 5 years prior to getting this job and he loves his job. He certainly acted like this was the happiest place on Earth.
The horse, like most horses that Disneyland gets, came from the Amish. The Amish used them to pull plows in a team of 10 horses, so this horse is used to working for a living. When they get a new horse it generally takes 1.5-2 months for the horse to get used to balloons, people, and walking on a hard surface. The horse works for 2 hours in a day but only for 3 days a week.
A Little History
The driver stated that this was one of the original park attractions. www.wdwinfo.com supports that statement and lists the opening day as July 17th, 1955.
Hidden Mickeys.
I did not see any and the driver did not know of any either.
Capacity
5 rows of 4 people. 1 row of 2 in front, and room for 4 people standing on the back. According to the Disney website it states the total number is 30 but I dont think that is accurate.
Location
This is a ride located on Disneylands Main Street, Anaheim California.
Summary
This is a cute little ride down Main Street with a horse leading the way. It isnt very exciting and is actually slower than just walking to the other end of Main Street yourself. But the kids really get a kick out of it.
