I bought this saw in 2000, for use with my hobby - home maintenance and furniture building. It replaced a B&D miter saw - wow, what a difference! The saw has a very light aluminum frame, making it easy to transport. It is one of the lightest 10" miter saws on the market - a feature you don't often think about when purchasing, yet when you are lugging it up a flight of stairs, you will thank yourself for buying this Makita.

It has a very smooth, high quality motor - vibration free, resulting in glass smooth cross-cuts and miters. The dust bag is quite effective, collecting the majority of sawdust produced.
In 6 months of use - no problems so far. Makita provided a good quality carbide tipped blade which is still in use.
If I had to do it again, I'd probably go for a 12" saw. The 10" Makita cannot cut anything wider than a 6" nominal board. But if your needs for cross cuts are 6" and less, I highly recommend this saw!
