Pros:Seems like a good saw in terms of robustness.
Cons:Not square - bad flaw for a mitre saw.
The Bottom Line: Buy another BRAND saw or buy Makita but take back IMMEDIATELY for refund if not square - DO NOT ASSUME YOU CAN FIX IT!
I purchased this saw in 2007. It would not saw square right out of the box. It was off by about 1/16" on 5". There is no real adjustment you can make as the fence has no "play" to speak of. So I took it back to the shop where I bought it - they sent it out to the service rep. He could not get it square and ordered/installed a new fence. 5 months later I got the saw back. It still did not saw square and the project (new home trims) that I bought it for was over. I was lax - didn't deal with it, and now I am trimming another house and tried to square the saw again - for the umpteenth time. Still no luck. I just phoned the company...they told me "you need to send it to the service rep". This time it's on my nickel. This is just a bad tool that should have been outright replaced...but I was so accustomed to Maktia being good quality that I kept believing that there was some way to fix it (I own 9 makita tools - drill, 3 sanders, J saw, router, trimmer, planer and this one). Unfortunately I wasted the time I should have been requesting a replacement on trying to get a fix and now I own a $700 saw not suitable for fine work - which is the work I do.
