I have searched and searched and searched, for the perfect miter saw. Here it is . Makita 10" Dual Slide Compound Miter Saw with light LS1013F.This saw has the capability of doing almost anything you ask of it and it is very well priced.
    A sliding miter box , for those of you who don't know, is a miter box with a twist.It can be used like a regular miter box , with the advantage of having a "sliding blade", ( similar to a radial arm saw). Having a slide lets you cut through wider and thicker, materials than a standard miter box. Dual bevel means the vertical axis of the saw can be tilted to the left or right , which ever you may need at the time. Combine the slide with the dual bevel  and you have one "mean" piece of equipment.
    The Makita is a well planned out saw. The 10" blade on this box is all, most would need. There is no reason to go with a twelve , look at  the price difference and I don't think you'll even give it another thought. It is Identifiable by Makita's trademark Blue color. The motor on this saw is placed on a 45 degree angle as to not interfere with cutting while beveled on its vertical axis.The cut rest also flips over out of the way, so you can cut in the same direction.The base is plenty big enough to comfortably cut anything and all markings are very easy to read. The sight line is great and all around use of the saw is just plain easy.
    The motor on this saw is more than strong enough to cut anything you give it . I use it to cut through vinyl siding, trim, flooring, crown molding, 4X4's, 1X or 2X materials. The saw itself is portable but it's not exactly light. It's also kind of awkward to lug around, but well worth it.
     Ok , now the question of all questions, why the Makita over everyone else? Well, I would have to say the Makita is the most compact of all the 10" sliding miter saws. Also in my opinion, It has the smoothest operation of them all. It is made by Makita so you know it's dependable. Make sure you read the instructions before you use the saw, and get comfortable with it. Lastly always wear safety glasses. Enjoy!
