Pros: Great service, good food, no crowds at Budapest Airport, clean, friendly
Cons: Hard to find ticket office in US, few good English speakers among crew
The Bottom Line: Malev's New York-Budapest service is an undiscovered gem. I don't know much about Malev and never used any other Malev service, but I highly recommend this one.

| mrozek's Full Review: Malev Hungarian Airlines |
If you need a direct flight from the US to Budapest, the only choice you have is Malev. Malev's New York-Budapest service is a great bargain, not well promoted, highly underrated.
First of all, it is not easy to fly to Budapest on major airlines. You may fly to Frankfurt, London or Paris and transfer to an inter-European flight to Budapest, Hungary. The problem is that you arrive to Europe after flying 7-9 hours from the US, wait another 2-4 hours for a connecting flight which takes only 1-1.5 hours to Budapest.
Overall your flight might take 15-19 hours to Budapest, instead of the 9-10 hours non-stop Malev connection from New York.
Other advantages.
JFK is a dump compared to Budapest Ferihegy Airport - and that is an understatement. Malev has the best (and most generous) food and drinks from all European airlines. (Singapore's might be beter in Asia, avoid Air France).
Service, seat assignments were very accomodating. Pilots were excellent, very fine landing... heavy Hungarian accents everywhere, some find it "cute", I needed to listen carefully to understand it.
