MALEV, not as bad as a lot of reviews said

Pros: Clean equipment, friendly staff
Cons: Amsterdam - need I say any more.
The Bottom Line: For not knowing anything about this airline I would say they did a good job overall.

I recently took a trip to Romania this past summer and booked my flight with NWA which I am a frequent flier of. I was told that I would connect in Amsterdam to some airline named Malev Hungarian Airlines. Never had I heard of such an airline and was a little worried. I read up on them from different internet sources and most of what I saw was negative. When I got to amsterdam I was a little worried about making my connection because we were already 1 hour late on landing from Detroit and had to walk for what seemed to be many miles before finally finding the gate. I did not know about transfer desks and was informed that I should have checked in there but they were able to take care of me at the counter at the gate.
The aircraft was a 737 and actually was not that cramped, and I should know being a rather large man. I connected in Budapest to a Fokker 70 which surprisingly was more comfortable than the 737. The meals were acceptable in their blue container. I flew in to Timisoara and must say that all the staff that I dealt with from Malev were very nice. The equipment was clean and yes there was the customary clapping after we landed. All in all it was a good experience and would recommend this airline to others who would ask.
