There have been many books written over the years that expose the so-called secrets of the Freemasons; however, Carlile’s Manual of Freemasonry is one of the lesser-known works. But while the book was intended as an expose, it serves a much greater purpose today, especially to Freemasons themselves. For Carlisle’s book, written in the early years of the nineteenth century, gives us a glimpse into the history of Freemasonry, especially the evolution of the Masonic degrees.
This is particularly valuable to American Masons who practice Masonic ceremonies that are vastly different than the English rituals that are the subject of Carlile’s expose. Here he reader and researcher will find the ceremonies and catchecisms of the nineteenth century Freemasons.
In addition to the wealth of material on Masonic rituals – in excess of 300 pages – the publisher gives a brief introduction on Carlile himself.
