| yvainestar's Full Review: Marriott Vacation Club Timber Lodge |
Marriott's Timberlodge has been a favorite annual destination resort for my family for over five years. It is located in the newer area of South Lake Tahoe, and is walking distance to all the boutiques, restaurants, theaters, ice skating, and more.
They offer studio - three bedroom units, and up to three baths. The rooms are very nice and comfortable. We have found that the studio unit is sufficient for our family of four. I find the beds to be very comfortable.
The one bedroom units and up have full kitchens with full size appliances, dining area, fireplaces, whirlpool tub, and some with washer and dryer.
The studio unit has a kitchenette. This includes a mini fridge, small sink, and microwave. All the units are fully equipped with dishes, pans, utensils, toaster, and coffee makers. We always go shopping at the local market and try to eat in as much as possible. There is plenty of storage space for all your food and drinks, even in the studio units.
The bathrooms are beautiful and modern. I appreciate the large under sink cabinet to store your toiletries. I find this a big plus!
One thing to keep in mind is that this is a time share resort. You will not get daily room cleaning, towels or trash pick up, with your nightly rate. You can pay a daily fee for these services, or just do it yourself and call the front desk for fresh towels. They will bring them up to your room. They also have bellman, and large carts to move your belongings to and from the room.
The Timberlodge is an all season resort, but we like to spend a week there each winter for the skiing a snowboarding. The location of the Timberlodge is within short, easy walking distance to the gondola. Another very convenient amenity is the free ski check on property that is just steps on and off the gondola.
At the end of the day, there is a large, year round heated (86º) swimming pool, a toddler pool, and four spas to have fun and relax in. Two of the spas are very large. They supply pool towels, plenty of lounge chairs, umbrellas, and side tables. The pool area is very spacious and centered in the middle of the 3 phases of buildings, mountains, and many trees. It is a very peaceful setting. Another great bonus is the heated walkways throughout the grounds and adjacent shopping area, so there is no snow or ice to slip on. Yes...you can go barefoot to the pool, and not freeze your toes off!
A great place to go out to eat for dinner is their on-site restaurant, Fire & Ice. This is an improvisational grill that has great food, and is very entertaining to watch as the energetic chefs prepare your meal over a large grill. They get very busy during dinner hours, especially on weekends, so put your name in early. While we wait, we like to sit around one of the large outdoor firepits, with a warm drink, watching the last of the skiers come down the mountain. There is another option if you don't feel like waiting around for your table. Tell the hostess you would like them to call you in your room when your table is ready. We like this option also, to take in some down time before we eat.
If you are looking to keep up on your exercise program, inside the main building they have a very nice fitness room with up to date treadmills, stationary bikes, free weights, balance balls, televisions, clean locker rooms with showers, sauna, blow dryer and towels. I should also mention that the pool is designed for lap swimming.
The Timberlodge offers many activities and programs for children, teens, and adults throughout the day and evening. You will find crafts, movie nights, walking groups, snowshoeing, video game tournaments, and much more. My daughter favorite activity was the soap making. When my husband and I want a date night, my children have always had a great time in the Fun Center, and the staff is very friendly and professional. We have always felt very safe leaving them in their care.
All in all, the Timberlodge is our favorite place to stay and has provided a treasure trove of memories for our family.
