Pros: legendary Marshall tone, not as flexible as some lower priced modeling amps
Cons: high price, to loud for practice, to heavy for a practice amp
The Bottom Line: After a few years of owning this amp you may tire of it and wish you had an all tube amp.

| cheetah1's Full Review: Marshall Avt20 20w 2-Channel 10" Guitar Combo Amp ... |
This is the smallest of the Marshall AVT amps but it is a large amp and a bit heavy at 32 lbs. These AVT amps are known for their excellent Marshall tone that emulates closely a real tube amp even though there is only one preamp tube and a solid state power section. The celestion 10 inch speaker is nice and loud with an extended bass response design.
I owned this amp for 3 years before I sold it. After a few years I became tired of the "stuck in the 80's" Marshall sound and used the cash from sale of the amp to purchase a Behringer GMX110 30 watt modeling amp which is more versatile than the Marshall but can't quite match the Marshall in overall sound quality.
The Marshall has a very thick warm tone and the amp really only comes alive when it is cranked up to very loud volumes. This is not good for me because I have very mild tinnitus. A loud amp like this can be bad for my hearing. At normal quiet practice levels the amp seems to lack character.
The amp is made in England and the overall build quality is top notch. If the amp was made in China the price could be lowered a bit but Marshall saves that for it's lesser priced MG series. The AVT is a step up in quality and performance from the MG series.
The accutonics spring reverb is just so-so, not to much depth. I notice the digital reverb that I hear on modeling amps is a bit longer and sounds more like what I hear on records.
Perhaps if Marshall made a smaller version of the AVT20, say 10 watts or so that would make it more suitable for my needs.
