| Naomi7835's Full Review: Martha Stewart Everyday Ceramic Ramekins |
This is the time of the year that I'm now getting ready for my Holiday baking. I've just been shopping for all of my baking ingredients for my Thanksgiving and Christmas baking. Before the Holidays arrive I like to bake cookies, pies, cakes, breads and special desserts that my family enjoys. A few desserts that I like to make are Flan, custards, and Creme Brulee. I bake these desserts in Ramekin cups. Although I used to have 6 Ramekin cups, but over the past year, however I managed to break a few and only had a few left. So a few months ago I knew that I needed to buy more for the upcoming Holidays.
When I was shopping in Kmart a while ago I came across Martha Stewart Everyday Ceramic Ramekins. These Ramekins cost $5.99 for 2. So to make sure that I had enough I purchased 6 of Marthas Ramekins.
These Ramekins are a nice styled glazed white ceramic with a nicely fluted exterior. The fluted Ramekins let you serve each guest with an individual dessert and will look nice on any table setting. Individual servings with these Ramekins always add a personal touch to any dessert.
The Martha Stewart Ceramic Ramekins are made of a thick ceramic wall and bottom construction that will provide even heat distribution that will retain heat while serving hot appetizers. They also bake evenly with no hot spots.
The size of the Martha Stewart Ceramic Ramekins are a good 7oz. size. My old Ramekins are 6oz. But I've found that I prefer the Martha Stewart 7oz Ramekin size better. They have just a bit more room in them.
Use, Care and Cleaning:
Before using the Ramekins for the first time, I hand washed them in soapy water, rinsed and dried them thoroughly. I don't have a dishwasher so I have to wash all my Ramekins out by hand, but these Ramekins can also be washed in the dishwasher, because they are dishwasher safe.
For occasional dried-on foods, I just wash the Ramekin in warm soapy water and gently scrub with a nylon or plastic scrubber. I haven't had any problems with sticking of any foods. Sometimes I will spray a little Vegetable oil in the Ramekins. This will allow foods to release easily and makes cleaning up a lot easier. I found a little soaking in warm water usually will remove most dried on food. But for stubborn dried-on foods, you can use Baking Powder with a little water, and a gentle scrub. This will remove any stubborn dried-on foods. Always make sure that the Ramekin has cooled thoroughly before soaking or washing in any warm water.
I never use steel wool, scouring pads, or strong cleaners on my Ramekins. My old Ramekins always looked great, because I was always gentle, in cleaning and caring for them.
Where can The Martha Stewart Everyday Ceramic Ramekins safely be used in?
Microwave.
Oven to 550 degrees.
Freezer.
Broiler.
Cautions:
When removing the Ramekins from the oven, I find that it's easier to remove them with a oven mitt. Once the Ramekins have been removed from the oven, its also easier for me to be able to grab onto one and lift them out of the water bath with a oven mitt instead of a pot holder.
Never use the Ramekins on top of a gas or electric range or with other direct heat sources.
If the Ramekins are used in the broiler, always allow 2½ inches between the heat source and the Ramekin.
If a Ramekin has been frozen in the freezer, never place it in a pre-heated oven. To re-heat place the frozen Ramekin in the oven, then set the oven to the desired temperature, and allow the oven and the Ramekin to warm at the same time.
Do not run cold water into a hot Ramekin, cracking could appear from any sudden temperature change. Always allow the Ramekin to cool thoroughly first.
Warranty:
The Martha Stewart Everyday Ceramic Ramekins come with a 5 year Warranty, and will replace any Ramekin that breaks from oven heat within 5 years from the date of purchase.
Uses for the Martha Stewart Ceramic Ramekins:
The Ramekins can be used for baking several types of desserts and can be a useful dish for holding and serving several types of foods.
1)---Flan.
2)---Fresh fruit.
3)---Dips, dipping sauces and spreads.
4)---Custards.
5)---Salsa.
6)---Puddings.
7)---Creme Brulee.
8)---Patte.
9)---Sorbid.
10)---Pre-measured ingredients. I like to use the Ramekins to set up my pre-measured ingredients in before I start a recipe.
11)---Condiments.
Storing:
The Martha Stewart Ceramic Ramekin cups can be stacked on top of one another a few at a time in the cabinet. But you must be careful when stacking them. This is how I broke some of my old Ramekins. Instead of stacking just one on top of another one, I stacked 3 and sometimes 4 together. I figured it would save on space. But it was a foolish idea because this was how I broke some of my Ramekins trying to get them out of my cabinet. Since I've purchased these Martha Stewart Everyday Ramekins I've made room in my cabinet and placed the Ramekins in a small wicker basket, with each one wrapped in a paper towel. This way I can remove the basket down without any breaking. It's a little effort but hopefully these Martha Stewart Ramekins will last a long time.
When making desserts in the Ramekins that have to be served cool, I first cover each Ramekin with clear wrap and place the Ramekins on a small cookie sheet and place them in the refrigerator until there ready to be served.
The Martha Stewart Everyday Ceramic Ramekins are made for baking and serving and are designed for table serving as well. I've found them to be a must for using on special occasions and Holidays.
I like to use these Ramekins when I have the Grand kids over. They are nice for serving all kinds of cut up fruits, ice cream, puddings, crackers or any small amounts of snacks for the kids. I especially like to have the Grand kids use them when ever I make cheese dip. I don't like to see the kids dip a chip into the cheese dip bowl, take a bite and then dip the same chip back into the cheese dip bowl. What I will do is spoon some of the dip into a Ramekin dish and then they have their own little dipping bowl.
These Martha Stewart Ramekins are just the right size, especially if a recipe calls for melted butter or melted chocolate. I just fill a Ramekin and pop it in the microwave.
I few tips for making a great custard in the Martha Stewart Ceramic Ramekins.
One dessert that I like to make in Ramekins for Christmas Eve is a very simple Caramel Custard. My family always looks forward to this dessert on Christmas Eve. It just would not be Christmas without my Caramel Custard.
In the process of whisking a custard together, a lot of air is incorporated into the mix. If the surface of the raw custard has a lot of bubbles on it, it can be hard to tell when the custard is cooked. Be sure to skim off the bubbles before baking.
When I bake my custard or any other desserts that require them to be baked in a water bath, I like to line the bottom of the pan with a double thickness of paper towels before setting the Ramekins in the pan. This keeps the Ramekins from slipping around in the water bath when transferring them in and out of the oven.
My final Recommendation.
As far as cons, I haven't found any since using the Martha Stewart Everyday Ceramic Ramekins. I haven't had any problems using the Ramekins and I'm very pleased with the results that I get when using the Ramekins. They make great Baked Savories along with chilled desserts, and can be used for side dishes at the table. The Martha Stewart Everyday Ceramic Ramekins does the hard work, gets the job done, and looks great when it comes to the table. I highly recommend these Martha Stewart Everyday Ceramic Ramekins.
Thanks For Reading and Happy Holidays!!
