Pros:Jumbo, resealable bag, delicious, easy to pry open, Made in the USA

Cons:Contains allergens/wheat/milk, calories

The Bottom Line: A delicious jumbo biscuit that's a favroite with my family.  Mouth watering good!

Me Rambling:
Back in the olden days a biscuit was made out of all-purpose flour, salt, baking powder, lard and buttermilk.  They were so soft and delicious they melted in your mouth.  Add some butter to melt in the center and then some strawberry preserves and you have a delicacy your taste buds are thrilled with.  Make a sandwich out of it with fried ham, a fried egg or peanut butter and grape jelly.  Split it down the middle and pour gravy over it, put apple butter in the center, eat it alone with a fresh pulled green onion from the garden.

My grandmother made the best biscuits ever!  My mother was raised in a private home (orphanage) and learned things like tap dancing, piano playing, lady stuff along with going to school and getting an education.  Cooking and house keeping was not something she was taught so when she married my father, "he" was the one to teach her how to make biscuits.

Along comes self-rising flour and Mom switched to it instead of all-purpose.  The result?  The same kind of biscuit with adding less ingredients.  Lard was still used until Mom switched to Crisco.  It was said to be healthier for you.

WOW!  Canned biscuits!  Mom switched to them later in life but would still make home-made biscuits when the house was full or on the weekends for my brother when he came to eat breakfast with them.

I gradually learned the art of making biscuits, one of the few things I did well in the kitchen.  Well, I was also a good baker but that's not exactly the same as "real" cooking.  Not the kind my grandmother, mother, aunts and sister did.  They were a "pinch of this and a pinch of that" type of cook.  I needed a recipe and without it, I was a failure.

One day my sister found "frozen" biscuits, baked some and took them to Mom.  They were so much easier to fix and while they were never quite as good as "home-made," they were gradually improved upon and before long, they were a staple in our freezer's.  Biscuits had came a long way!

For years, I bought Pillsbury frozen biscuits.  They had a variety but I preferred the ones made of buttermilk, and sometimes the butter tasting ones.

Our Walmart started selling Mary B's frozen biscuits but nah, they weren't packaged in such a way that I wanted to try them so I turned my nose up and selected the the better looking/packaged ones.  Pillsbury had the better packaging, made biscuits look delicious, so if they looked delicious, they must be delicious, right, and they were.  They really were.  One day, I couldn't find my buttermilk biscuits so grabbed a 10 bag of Jumbo biscuits made by Mary B's.

OK, I'm through rambling so let's talk about the biscuits.

What are the ingredients?
Enriched Bleached Blour (Bleached Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamine Mononitrate {Vitamin B1}, Riboflavin {Vitamin B2}, Folic Acid, Buttermilk, Partially Hydrogenated Vegetable Shortening (Soybean Oil and/or Cottonseed Oil), Water, Nonfat Milk, Leavening (Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate, Sodium Aluminum Phosphate).  Contains 2% or Less of Sugar, Salt, Sodium Caseinate, Datem (Emulsifier), Artificial Flavors.

These jumbo hockey pucks are light in texture and easy to pry open.  Right out of the oven, they're piping hot and smell delicious!  I'll open one up using a fork, add some butter, let it melt and then add some Smuckers Strawberry Preserves or Concord Grape Jelly.  A piece of sausage makes a great sandwich.  Lay them flat in your plate and they're mighty good with sausage gravy poured on them.

Each resealable pack as 10 jumbo biscuits.  I usually fix 4 biscuits for breakfast, 2 for me and 2 for my husband.  They're very filling and so easy to bake.

They don't bake well in my Lodge Drop Biscuit Pan, in fact, they don't fit, so I have to use a baking sheet.  I preheat my oven to 350 degrees and place my frozen biscuits, smooth side down, on my sheet after spraying with Pam.  I set my timer for 23 minutes and wait, or fry up some sausage and make gravy.  You can also thaw the biscuits before baking.  If you do, you only need to bake them for around 15-16 minutes.  Each biscuit's diameter is around 3.5 inches so I'm talking about big and large!

My Thoughts:  Mary B's Jumbo Biscuits are delicious.  They're soft and moist and almost as good as my Mom's and grandmother's.  Pick up a bag the next time you're at Walmart and give them a try.  I think you'll love them as much as I do.
