ldusold's Full Review: Mary Kay Oil Free Hydrating Gel
I recently had a Mary Kay party, and was able to try some great new products, as well as purchase some that I liked a lot. When I chose to have the Party, I decided that I wanted the focus to be on skin care instead of your usual make up and trying out different colors etc. During the winter months I suffer from very severe dry skin, or as I call it, "Sandpaper Face" (I'm not kidding either) In the winter my face is just like sandpaper because it's so dry. I am just not a lucky person at all when it comes to my skin type. I suffer from dry skin in the summer as well, so no matter what the season is, I'm ALWAYS looking for ways to hydrate my skin.
When I think of the numerous lotions and moisturizers that I have spent money on over the last 5 or 6 years, it's ridiculous. I think I've tried everything imaginable. If you only knew how many different products sit in the back of my bathroom cabinets all of which are lotions or moisturizers that have failed to give my skin what it needs most. I've thrown many away, but I still have some of them. Don't ask me why, I know that I will never use them. What happens to me is that I buy a product because I "think" that it's going to be just what my skin needs, and it may very well work for about a week or two, but then the positive results are no longer there. I don't know what it is, I don't know if it's because my skin becomes immune to it or what, but I just can't win!!!!
I recently wrote a review about a Mary Kay product that I thought was going to do the trick... And it was working well, I didn't have complaints at all, but it was still not giving me the results that I was looking for. You see with my severely dried skin, I am unable to wear things like foundation on my face, so the extent of my make up is eye liner, mascara and maybe some lipstick. I have an extremely RED face, probably because of all the scrubbing I do to try and get the dry skin off of it. And even with using the Mary Kay Extra Emollient Night Cream® on a daily basis it was still just not quite exactly what I needed.
After having the Mary Kay party, I went through the whole process of cleaning and moisturizing my face, and I have to say I was skeptical because I just didn't want to pay large sums of money for more products that would end up collecting dust in the back of my bathroom cabinets.
I started the process by washing my face with the Timewise 3 in 1 cleanser® for Normal to Dry skin. This is different than Mary Kay's original formula, since it's especially for people like me with dry skin. The next step was to apply the Timewise 3 in 1 moisturizer® also for Normal to Dry skin, once again, this is not the original moisturizer but more for people like me with the dryness on their face. Once this process what done, my face felt much better, but still it didn't give me the results that made me think I'd want to spend the money to buy it. Well it was suggested to me to give this Mary Kay oil free hydrating gel® a try. I thought, ----- "Sure what can it hurt, but it probably won't be any better than any of the other products I've tried" -----
Well, a little bit goes a long way baby - Let me just tell you, it left my face feeling soft and smooth. With sort of a satin type of feel to it. NO MORE SANDPAPER? Yeah sure, this can't be true, but seeing or shall I say "feeling" was believing.... You see I had spent about $30.00 on the Avon Anew® product that was similar to this, and it was supposedly the greatest stuff.... Well Mark®, I'm here to tell you that Mary Kay® has outdone you with this one. I have had the Avon for about 3 years, and the jar looks like it's barely been touched... (More money wasted - It worked for about a week, and then it lost it's effectiveness completely!!!)
The Mary Kay Oil Free Hydrating Gel® has proven to be the best thing I've found yet. I did the facial cleaning process and the hydrating gel afterwards and believe it or not, I woke up the next day with my face STILL feeling hydrated and soft. I was truly amazed. The woman had the product with her that night, and I bought it from her THAT night. I used it for 3 days and happened to run into her in the grocery store, when I said hello she turned around and looked at me her mouth literally hung open. She was in shock, she said I looked wonderful, and while talking she said she has never had a client with as much of a challenge as my skin was, and she was standing there in amazement at the wonders that the hydrating gel had done on my face. She said I looked like a million bucks. (Oh sure nice compliment) but no, seriously, I felt better, my face felt better, and there was no more dryness and itching that usually goes along with the dry skin. My skin had a healthy glow to it. (although, my skin still has the redness)
Since using this product I have found that I am finally able to wear my foundation again. Make up goes on smoothly and more evenly. And when I'm done, all I look like is a girl with the perfect complexion. No more dry patches and that "cake face" look when I wear foundation. Of course it helps that I already had some of the Mary Kay Day Radiance Cream Foundation® I've had it for years, but haven't been able to use it, because it looked just dreadful on me with the dry skin underneath. I'm here to tell you that this Hydrating Gel is the ULTIMATE MOISTURIZER. I would gladly stand up and show the before and after effects of my face just to SHOW the difference that this stuff has done for me.
So what exactly is the Oil Free Hydrating Gel?
This is an oil-free and fragrance-free moisturizer. Even for the severely dry skinned people (like me) you only need a small amount. It spreads over your skin so easily and evenly. You just can't go wrong. It comes in a 1.8 Oz. lavender colored thick glass jar with a silver screw on lid. The moisturizer is lightweight and doesn't make you feel like you have any sort of goop or any such thing like that on your face. After applying this to your face, you will feel refreshed, it sort of has a cooling effect, but yet leaves no heaviness behind. You won't even notice any oily feel to it. It's just as natural as a baby's face. I have been able to apply this gel in the morning after washing my face properly, and I can put foundation on my skin and all of that fun stuff and then forget about it, by evening, my face is still just as moist as it was when I first applied it. My make up still looks fresh, and I'm feeling good about myself.
I have not had any break outs as of yet, and after this length of time using it, I don't think I'm going to. I can't speak for others, I can only speak for myself. Maybe if you are a person with a tendency toward oily skin you may have some pimples etc, but I can't really say that it's the product causing that. Since I've been using it and haven't had one single break out yet.
What does Mary Kay have to say about this product?
"This refreshing, oil-free gel transforms your skin by restoring its moisture balance and hydrating for up to 10 hours. The cooling gel absorbs immediately, leaving skin feeling silky smooth and perfectly quenched with a marine extract to help soften, plus vitamin E and green tea extract. Ideal for normal to oily skin."
How should you Apply it?
When using this product, it's best to wash and dry your face in the usual way, my recommendation for best possible results is to use the Mary Kay Timewise® 3 in 1 cleansing and moisturizing steps first, and then apply the Hydrating Gel. Next you can apply your foundation. Once again, I think you will be amazed at how easily your foundation goes on. You will have a flawless, smooth satiny finish when you're done. You, too, will look like a million bucks, and even better yet, YOU'LL FEEL Like a New Woman!!!
When I run out, will I buy this product again?
I MOST DEFINITELY WILL!!!
