Over the years, I've become more and more concerned with preventative skin care, and as a good habit, I've worn sunscreen every single day since my early 20's. Having combination skin which becomes increasingly oily during the warmer months has meant using some kind of oil control during the day, too. While I'd love to reduce my morning routine by one product, I've never found an oil control product that includes a sunscreen and since I'm happy with my Mary Kay skincare routine, I've found a workaround. For $15 you get just over half an ounce of product which doesn't seem like a lot. However, as I've mentioned in another review, I prefer smaller packaging because I'm using fresher product as it doesn't sit in my cabinet for several months.
After cleansing and toning my face and neck in the morning, I dispense about a one-inch ribbon of this clear, almost colorless gel onto my finger and apply it where my face shows oil during the day; my cheeks, forehead and nose. The product has virtually no noticeable scent and it absorbs quickly like a very light moisturizer. After just a minute I simply apply my foundation and a light dusting of powder and I'm set for the day. My skin doesn't end up with a super-matte artificial look, but instead I have a naturally hydrated, healthy, soft look about my face.
By the time I leave work at 5:30 p.m., what tiny bit of shine I may have is quickly removed with a dab of oil-blotting paper which you can easily purchase from Mary Kay or from a drugstore. While I choose not to carry the product with me, another great feature is that it can be applied over your foundation or moisturizer during the day without disturbing your makeup, which will come in very handy for me as we move into June and July when I usually can't stay shine-free more than an hour.
While my dream is to find one product that will effectively control oil and provide me with the protection of sunscreen, in the meantime Mary Kay Oil Mattifier effectively reduces shine and prevents my makeup from turning into an oily mess. I highly recommend this product!
