blackelve's Full Review: Masters of Horror - Dario Argento: Jenifer
Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.
Jenifer
Dario Argento
DVD format
Masters of Horror
I don't know whether to say I liked this film or not. It is an excellent storyline that came originally from a 70's comic. The acting was excellent. The make-up fantastic, and of course, the director is Dario Argento. So what was about the movie that makes me almost not want to like it? I really have no idea; maybe it's too short, the ending I knew was coming or maybe there was a bit too much sex in it? I couldn't tell you.
Plot summary:
Frank Spivey (played by Steven Weber), rescues a horribly disfigured girl (played by Carrie Anne Fleming) from a killer. But after his rescue, he becomes strangely obssessed with this ugly...beautiful creature who might or not be mentally challenged. He brings her home, and his family leaves him within 24 hours. He cannot leave Jenifer alone, because when he does she does horrid things to anything...anybody, around her.
What Jenifer is no-one knows except that she has the body of a Goddess and the face of a monster. She is loving, but deadly. A seductress, psychopath and succubus all rolled into one. (and that is generally your complete plot)
The DVD includes three hours of bonus features:
An interview with Dario Argento,
An interview with Steve Weber (who also wrote the screenplayed besides playing the lead)
An interview with Carrie Anne Fleming

and much much more.
My understanding is that this was originally on HBO for the series, Masters of Horror...but I do not have HBO so I have not seen any of the series.
For Argento fans, this is a must see. Beautiful story that sucks you in from the very beginning. It has his special touch of the strange and wonderful.
If you aren't use to his films, then I don't recommend this film, try his older films first like Susperia (one of my all time favorites) to understand his usage of light and characterization plotting.
So do I know yet why I am not sure if this movie appealed to my dark senses yet...no. And I probably never will know why.
