Pros:Nice smell, did add some volume

Cons:What I purchased is considered a "diverted" product.

The Bottom Line: Not a bad shampoo, but not worth the high price tag.

A few years ago I started using a volumizing shampoo made by Matrix, called Amplify.  My sister-in-law is a hair dresser and she turned me on to it.

I most recently used Matrix Biolage Bodifying Shampoo.  We took a trip to Hawaii and met our daughter and son-in-law there, and they packed their bags lightly so they could avoid the fee for checking a suitcase.  They both took just a carry on, which meant they could not pack any shampoo or other such products that weighed more than 3.4 ounces.  I told her I would bring shampoo and other such personal care items with us, since we did check one large bag.

The shampoo I purchased was this Matrix Biolage Bodifying Shampoo, because I knew my daughter liked Matrix products.  Of course I had to bring it back home with us as well, and I have been using it for the past few days.

The listing here is for the 16.9 ounce size, and since the size I have (8.5 ounces) is not listed, I am placing my review here and claiming the "series rule".

Packaging is simple.  This is a white bottle with a green leaf in the center.  It claims to volumize fine, limp hair, but that is about all I can tell you about it.  I didn't realize it when I bought this shampoo in my local Fred Meyer store, but the entire back of the bottle, (both the directions and the ingredients), are not printed in English!  That's right, none of the five languages are English, and I find this shocking and disturbing.

As far as how well the shampoo works, it does a pretty good job.  It comes out very thick and white - and I had to do a double take because it looked more like a conditioner than a shampoo.  The cap has a flip top, and although it seems like it will screw off as well, the entire cap will not come off.  It turns but then stops and won't unscrew completely.

This shampoo has a mild, sweet scent.  If I had to compare it to any other scent I would say it is similar to Ivory soap.  I have short hair, and we have soft water in our home - generally I do not have a problem getting shampoo to make a lot of suds, but I found that I had to use twice as much of this shampoo than I do my Eufora shampoo.

It does clean well, leaving my hair squeaky clean but not feeling stripped.  I have been conditioning with Dove Damage Therapy Conditioner, and my hair feels great after it has been dried and styled.  It also has a fair amount of volume here at home, but when my daughter used this in Hawaii she didn't really get a lot of volume out of it (and her hair is very much like mine).  Part of that may be due to the high humidity in Hawaii, we both had major issues with our hair going flat.

This 8.5 ounce bottle retailed for around $12.00, which was cheaper than buying it in a salon (ounce for ounce), but I don't really feel that it performed any better than some every day brands purchased in the supermarket to justify the higher price.  And if you already use a volumizing mousse or gel like I do, there is (in my opinion) no need to pay more for a bodifying shampoo.

I just visited the Matrix website to see if I could find their toll free phone number, because I wanted to comment on the fact that the directions are not printed in English.  I found some interesting information there.  Their site reads:  Diversion is when products are sold in "unauthorized" places. For example, all genuine Matrix products are sold exclusively in salons. But you might come across a few bottles in your local supermarket, drugstore, online or at a discounter. Salon professional products you find outside of a salon are considered to be "diverted."

I often purchase Redken products from Target and have found them to be identical to the salon versions, yet much cheaper.  If you are concerned that you might not be getting the "real thing", I would recommend that you buy your hair care products from salons.  In my case, I went to the salon to purchase Matrix Biolage Heat Setting Spray, but they did not have smaller bottles of shampoo that were available at Fred Meyer.
