My daughter, a dancer, absolutely adores ballet-theme Mattel dolls, Mattel BARBIE Of Swan Lake KEN As Prince Daniel Doll is no exception. After deciding to purchase Barbie as Odette, Marisa picked up a Mattel BARBIE Of Swan Lake KEN As Prince Daniel Doll, stating "Princess Odette needs Prince Daniel." I gave her an odd look and she re-clarified, "Mom it would be a boring performance without the male principle dancer!"

"Into an enchanted forest, Odette follows Lila the unicorn through a magical passage where she meets the Fairy Queen who reigns over all the forest animals. The evil Rothbart casts a spell that transforms Odette into a swan. Prince Daniel sees Odette, the swan, as she turns into a beautiful girl before his eyes. They fall in love, and together, they banish Rothbart, save the enchanted forest, and live happily ever after."*
That is the basis for the 2003, Mattel Barbie Of Swan Lake, Christmas season splendor from Mattel, one that is certain to be a wish list dream of many girls. This line is the third theme oriented Christmas season release. This started in 2001 with the release of the Nutcracker series. In 2002 we were presented with Rapunzel Barbie, and now the Swan Lake series. Like its predecessors, this line offers Barbie, Ken, a mode of transportation (AKA Horse or Unicorn and Carriage), a My Size doll, and several Kelly doll characters.
If your child adores Barbie, is a fan of ballet, or is a dancer, the Mattel Barbie Of Swan Lake line is a good gift option and likely to be appreciated. This doll is suggested for children ages 3 and up, but in my view has a target age of 4-9.
Mattel BARBIE Of Swan Lake KEN As Prince Daniel Doll is approximately 12" tall. He has blonde hair, blue eyes, and ivory skin-tone. His shirt is primary shades of pale-blue and white with accents of silver. This shirt fastens down the back with Velcro. A white sash with silver accent is sewn to the shirt, crossing from shoulder to waist. A metallic-silver cape fastens onto the shoulders via two plastic snaps. His pants, a shiny metallic-charcoal color, are of mid-calf length. His black boots come up over the pants cuffs. The attention to detail allows this costume to appear stage ready, adding to the realistic fun that ballet enthusiasts will have.
Prince Daniel has flesh-tone briefs, that are part of his molded plastic body. His knees bend via internal jointing, allowing for a smooth leg appearance. You can turn him at the waist, rotate his legs front to back and slightly outward from his hips. His arms offer the same rotation feature as his legs. You can also turn his head. Unfortunately a stand isn't included with the initial purchase, but when posed appropriately, this doll stands (not a sturdy stance, but a temporary stand posture).
Initial purchase includes a plastic silver crown which is easy to put on, and does stay in place, in part due to his crusty hair. Although I feel that his hair is too stiff, she stated, "Its stage hair Mom!"
A Swan is included in this set. This Swan is hard white plastic. It is approximately 3 ½" long and 4" tall. You can turn her head, this rotation occurs at the bottom portion of her neck. She has blue eyes, a pink bill, and pale-blue & pastel-pink feather adornment. Also, she is wearing a crown and necklace. Also she has multi-layer fabric wings. Layer one is made of pearl-white, satin-like material and layer two is constructed from white-net that is accented with shiny thread.

Overall Mattel did a good job with BARBIE Of Swan Lake KEN As Prince Daniel Doll, and I feel that this is a worthwhile purchase. This doll compliments Barbie as Odette Doll very nicely, and the two will make a nice gift package for girls 4 9 years of age. Additionally some collectors will appreciate this line.
My primary reason for liking this doll is because of the joy my daughter exhibits when playing with this particular Ken and Barbie. She has a ton of Barbie's, many are important to her, but none have captivated her continued- attention as much as this line. Perhaps it is because she is more seasoned in dance now, and appreciates classical ballet, such as Swan Lake. Maybe it is because one of her artistic directors showed them a version of Swan Lake, which included according to Missy, "Famous People [Dancers]." Or could it just be that this line allows her to escape to a land of fantasy play? Whatever the reason(s), I like it! The twinkle in her eyes makes me happy. In my view, Mattel hit the mark with this line and I recommend Mattel BARBIE Of Swan Lake KEN As Prince Daniel Doll.
Thank you for reading and Happy Playing!
