some_guy5's Full Review: Mattel Disney Pixar Cars Ferrari F430
I don't mind buying toys for my children as long as they get played with. As much as they love the movie cars (I have a 19 month old and it is the only thing she will sit still for) I figured it was a safe bet that they would play with some of the die-cast toys. Sure enough my older daughter bought two with some of her birthday money. Youngest loves everything her sister does and before long I went to the store to get her one of her own. The thing is, she doesn't always articulate her opinions all that well. So when I saw a Ferrari F430 on the rack, I was sold. In the movie Cars the Ferrari was voiced by Michael Schumacher. This is one case where I picked the toy.
Item Description Disney Pixar's World of Cars Ferrari F430 is just so happens to be Ferrari red, also commonly known as racing red. He is the one character I have seen with out a name. His package just says Ferrari F430 on it. Well it is by far the hottest car in the movie. If you have seen a F430 it is a reasonable likeness. At a quick glance it could be mistaken for lightning McQueen, both being red and roughly the same size. However the F430 has Ferrari lines, Ferrari badges, and European license plates. The F430's engine is just behind the driver and this toy version has it right, with a clear plastic cover showing off an attempt at an engine. Disney Pixar's World of Cars Ferrari F430 is a two door car. Like all the Cars characters, where the windshield would be on a normal car the eyes are located. The front of the car has a mouth added.
Durability Disney Pixar's World of Cars Ferrari F430 is made of die-cast metal with a plastic bottom. It is pretty durable by nature. The windows are made of plastic and it seems possible to bend the wheels. He has one nick in the paint so far, but I expect those will multiply with time. He does after all get run repeatedly off of tables and the Cars at my house quite often crash into each other and high speeds. Disney Pixar's World of Cars Ferrari F430 is moderately durable without being truly tough.
The Character Disney Pixar's World of Cars Ferrari F430 makes only the most brief of appearances in the move Cars, and if I am remembering it correctly it may even be during the credits. He shows up to buy tires (or tyres since he is European) from rabid Ferrari fan Luigi and has only a couple of lines one of which is in Italian. I did notice recently that he was actually voiced by 7 time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher. That makes it more cool to me, but the girls don't care a bit. It is safe to say that story relevance is not a good reason to buy Disney Pixar's World of Cars Ferrari F430.
Playing with Disney Pixar's World of Cars Ferrari F430 Despite the fact that I was happy to find him, my daughters seem to have no special love for Disney Pixar's World of Cars Ferrari F430. They like the characters they recognize and can play better with. When I am called on to play with cars, he is the one I choose, but more often he is filler or an also-ran to them. He functions just as the other toys do, but doesn't have the draw of having really been in the story. I recommend Disney Pixar's World of Cars Ferrari F430 because it is hard to find, but not really for any other reason. If you are just starting out your children will probably like the main characters better.
Value I think I paid $3.69 for Disney Pixar's World of Cars Ferrari F430. That is about $0.20 more than what I pay for them at Wal-Mart, but they didn't have this one at Wal-Mart. I was at Sears and this was the only one they had. At $3.69 I think this is a reasonable value.
Conclusion The girls like every single character from the World of Cars that I have bought them, but to be honest this is probably their least favorite. It happens to be the one I like the most, but I don't really count since I seldom play with them. If you are looking to get a robust collection and you see him on the shelves then snatch him up, but otherwise I think most children would rather have characters that have a bigger part in the movie than just in the credits. The Ferrari F430 is a sweet car in real life, but in this case it makes an OK toy.
