jenscookie's Full Review: Disney's Snow White Holiday Princess Barbie
Actually, it's Snow White's elbows that look like they are going to do some jazzercize. This doll was made few years ago in a Disney series of holiday princesses. The Mattel Disney dolls look basically like Barbie, as I'm sure you know, but their heads tend to be a little bigger, they are slightly less boobalicious, and in this case, Snow White's elbow's are bent at more of a right angle than the usual Barbie pageant arm pose. There are no odd mechanics to this doll, which is probably why she has held up as well as she has after several years of child ownership. I have yet to find a Barbie that satisfactorily performs her twirling and other acrobatics as promised (I'm talking about you, 12 Dancing Princesses).
We got this doll awhile ago, but her raven black hair has stayed pretty well in the Disney Snow White coiffure. She has a white and gold hairband with metallic blueberries with gold leaves. It's sewn in. She wears a pearl choker, and her lovely dress has pearl buttons. The dress is very striking. It has the traditional Snow White look with the puffy upper arm bodice and fitted waiste. The empire waist has tucks running down that make the waist look like it is boned. The skirt is satiny white jacquard, while the upper bodice is royal blue velveteen. The narrow part of the sleeve that covers the forearm is white satin and gold and white lace trim rings the sleeves just above the elbows. There is white and gold piping in the bodice details. The white satin and lace collar stands up and out in an Elizabethan manner. There is an attached gold lame cape with white fur trim, and she also has a white fur muff with gold ribbons and trim. Her shoes have unfortunately been lost- replaced with ice skates- to accompany the muff. Actually the entire ensemble has been coopted by the Princess of South Africa, who looks absolutely striking in it.
There is a little rabbit ornament accompanying Snow White which we have not kept with the doll.
She is really a striking doll, and the dress especially attracted us. It is well made with several gores to create a swirl effect. It has held up pretty well over several years of play and has only frayed a little. As one of the oldest Disney characters, it's nice to see Snow White get a nice fashion makeover. Tim Gunn would approve. This is a collectible doll you will have to hunt for as she came out several years ago, but well worthwhile, especially for Snow White fans.
