Pros:Great for collectors and kids alike; Price is accessible
Cons:Uhmm in my world most Collectable Barbies have none!
The Bottom Line: If you are interested in dolls, the Celtic heritage, or just want a beautiful gift for your child-here she is!
Collecting Barbie® has become a family addiction. My sister recently purchased Mattel'sPrincess of Ireland Barbie®, To say the least I was green with envy (pardon the pun).
She is collecting the Princesses of the World, while I stick to other collections. We both try to keep the dolls mint in the box. So therefore neither of us can play with our dolls. This is only temporary, I plan on building a case exclusively for Maggie's Barbie® collection where they can be touched and viewed without the constrictions of a box.
No, I do not plan to resale these dolls no matter how high the market value.
About Mattel's Princess of Ireland Barbie®:
Awesome Details!
She comes encased in a green box with gold trim. The backdrop is an Irish castle, which makes this a great home for her until she can be properly displayed. Included is tidbits about Ireland and it's Celtic Culture. You will find educational information about the Celtic people on the back of the box.
She's Not Green with Envy!
I have looked over my sister's collection of dolls and this one is definitely the most beautiful to date.
Her skin is paled, like most that inhabit that region. Her hair is very long, slightly curled, burgundy red. It cradles her delicate face. Her green eyes sparkle due to the gorgeous rosy eye shadow. Her eye lashes are dark, long, and lovely. Her full lips are a glossy ruby red. Even without her gorgeous attire, this is a gorgeous doll.
Clothes Fit for a Princess
The Princess of Ireland Barbie® wears a gorgeous green gown. It is a crushed olive green satin like gown that has an embroidery type panel that leads down to the floor. It is embellished with Celtic symbols (such as crosses and flower type symbols) in burgundy, rose, green, and gold against the olive green. A gold edging runs down both sides of the panel, giving the dress a very regal appearance.
Around her waist is a gold belt, with chunky Celtic embellishments (medallions), that are similar to her brooch and crown. Her crown is also a very pristine gold ring that matches her other accessories. It sits daintily upon her flowing red hair.
Her cape is a luxurious forest green velvet that is longer than her dress. It drapes the floor. It is held tightly around her neck by a gold Celtic brooch, that is very large. All of these small details tie all aspects of the dresses materials and colors together to give Barbie® that royal flair. She is definitely dressed to be a queen.
Price, Availability, & Market Value
The Princess of Ireland Barbie® is priced modestly @ 19.99-25.00 at almost any retailer that carries Barbie® Collectable dolls. But be warned, these dolls are discontinued in a timely manner to ensure the value goes up for collectors.
I have found through my collections, if you want to collect, if you are already a collector or you are just pondering the thought, that these types of dolls are worth more money if you collect all in the series.
The value of this doll will be determined by the condition the box, doll, and her accessories (if any). It is important to keep your collection away from smoke, moisture, and extreme temperatures if you do decide to collect.
You may think because she is priced so much lower than most Barbie® Collectable dolls that she would not be worth much in the future. But to the contrary, my great aunt paid three dollars ($3.00) for Barbie® numbered #4 and her daughter sold it for well over 100xs it's original value at auction.
Age Recommendation's
This doll is intended for ages 3 and up. Like most dolls it has small pieces (such as her shoes) that could pose a choking hazard.
MaggsMomm's Thoughts
I am tempted to sneak this out of my sister's collection. I am hoping that she (the doll, not my sister) will be available for me to purchase when I can find spare change. I have noticed a decrease in her volume at stores in the area. She is a lovely doll for collectors or little girls who wish they were a princess. I highly recommend this doll, especially for the price and quality. She is a true Irish Princess.
Pass on the Luck of the Irish to someone you love....
