Pros: Not too many tiny accessories! She's a Barbie
Cons: Camera doesn't actually make photos, awkward stand
The Bottom Line: Pet doctor, teacher, life guard, fastfood worker, astronaut ... Barbie's been there, done that ... so why not try being a model for a while?

Well ... what career could be more suitable for Barbie? She's the perfect plastic poser!
Funky clothing? YES!
Garish makeup? YES!
Exaggerated unrealistic figure? YES!
Will most little Barbie fans love her? Yes!
What comes in this play set?
One regulation poseable FASHION PHOTO BARBIE! Complete with trendy highlighted long straight blond hair, and brighter/heavier than usual makeup.
One fantastically fashionable (if you're living in a disco alter-universe) changeable outfit! The outfit consists of a halter style top, a mini skirt, a shrug (sleeves that connect around the back), and capri pants that convert into bell bottom long pants with the addition of removable sections, and one pair of chunkie hot pink shoes.
Camera - it really 'clicks' but doesn't make a picture, turn the lens and if connected to the posing base unit, it will cause Barbie to swivel and move her arms and head!
Posing base unit - for use with the camera and this particular Barbie for fashion shoots, or can be used to hold most any Barbie in a stationary position.
Odds & Ends - a bracelet for Barbie, four 'photos' of Barbie modeling ... one includes her friends FASHION PHOTO CHRISTIE and FASHION PHOTO KAYLA, the requisite small plastic hair brush, sunglasses
So is it fun?
According to Skye, YES!
The wardrobe possibilities perhaps aren't endless, but it does allow a little mix and match fun ... the halter with or without the shrug, with capri pants, or bell bottoms, or a skirt ... the skirt worn low to bare the belly or pulled right up under the halter to create a tunic top ... and most little girls will probably find additional ways to use the individual pieces such as turning the shrug around to create a backless long sleeve bandeau top (NOT something that translates well into 'real life' but it works fine for Barbie! *lol*), or using the bell bottom portions of the pants legs to make flared sleeves.
Skye needed a little help getting Fashion Photo Barbie positioned in her stand, but once she was in place, Skye enjoyed turning the camera lens to change Barbie's pose, and clicking the button to make 'pictures'. She was only briefly disappointed to find that the camera was only 'for pretend' and that rather than getting real pictures she just had to use her imagination.
Note: a parent will need to assemble the camera, trigger cord, and base unit.
What else can you do with it?
Well, of course this Barbie can wear the clothing from almost any other Barbie you own ... and pose in those outfits. And she can interact with any other Barbies from any other occupation or playset. She can ride in the cars, push the stroller or grocery cart, man the icecream stand or boutique, etc. just as any other Barbie can.
You can use the 'camera' to make photos of your daughter posing with or without Barbie. Skye enjoyed being the 'model' and had fun wearing a dance recital dress, a halloween costume boa and tiara, and her cowboy boots as I snapped pictures and cheered her on with 'beautiful', 'lovely', 'a bit to the right', 'tilt your head', etc. For those who worry about the negative impact of such play ... DON'T ... we also play school, library, bank, restaurant, construction site, doctor's office, zoo, amusement park and many other less appearance-oriented imaginative play.
Is it that different than the million other Barbie toys our daughters already own?
No, not really. And I think Mattel comes out with a similar 'poseable' Barbie and stand ever few years. Some are dancers, some are models, some are gymnasts, etc. I think I remember a similar Barbie and stand from when I was a young girl. So, no, in all honesty this isn't something brand new, or different, or original. But for what it is advertised to be, it fits the bill. It's a Barbie that when used with her special stand can change poses with the turn of the camera lens. Not magical to an adult, but pretty darn impressive to a 5 year old.
Who should buy this doll and who shouldn't?
If you like Barbie, or at least don't mind your little girl playing with Barbies, this is a fun addition. Probably not a must have, but certainly a better gift (to give or receive) in my opinion than some of the play sets that contain a thousand tiny pieces and accessories that end up lost in the sofa cushions or stepped on during the middle of the night.
If you don't like Barbie and don't want your daughter playing with Barbie ... then by all means, skip this one too.
My daughter received Fashion Photo Barbie for her 5th birthday. I think this play set is best suited for little girls a bit older though those her age can certainly enjoy playing with the doll by themselves ... and with the camera and posing stand with a bit of adult assistance.
