Pros: Battle cry is clear, figure is nicely detailed, comes with classic He-man episode.
Cons: It isn't classic He-man.
The Bottom Line: I would recommend Battle Sound He-man to any old or new He-man fans. The price is right, though it seems like more art then toy.

| MagickCat's Full Review: Mattel Masters of The Universe: Battle Sound He-Ma... |
Sitting here some 18 years later, staring at modern He-man and vintage He-man. Despite his worn paint, half eyebrow and midget legs, thunder punch He-man looks like he could still kick Battle sound He-mans over articulated behind.
Battle Sound He-man, I stare at your oddly placed head and wonder what sort of accident caused your spine to warp, your back to hunch...too close to the microwave were we? If only Skeletor could take credit for pushing you in.
Lights, Camera, Sound :
Battle Sound He-man's gimmick is sound. If you are at all familiar with He-man or She-ra figures, you know about the line of gimmick toys they come up with. Not only will your child want the basic He-man who does nothing but look cool, but they will also want...no MUST have the one that talks, shoots laser beams and the one that.... to hell with it just go down to Walmart and scoop up everything that has a Masters of the Universe logo. It worked for my parent's way back when She-ra dolls hit the shelves 18 years ago. My good, kind and caring parents whom I love very much...
Anyways, Battle Sound He-man's gimmick is sound. He only says one thing, "I have the power!" followed by the sound of swords clashing. And for any He-man that is good enough. He-man should be a man of few words, it is not like you would expect He-man to ask you how your day was or does this loincloth make me look fat?
"I have the power!" is good enough.
The small black button (which launches He-man into his battle cry) located on the side of his armor, is inconspicuous and blends in nicely with the rest of this figure. Though I wish it was on the back instead. Though I suppose putting it on the side would make it easier for smaller children to figure out.
Battle Sound He-man also makes the sword clashing noise (battle sound) when you twist his hip. I suspect this was either modeled after Ricky Martin or Elvis Presley. It fits when He-man has his sword in hand and is fighting bad guys, but once you take the sword away...Enough of that.
I am impressed with the sound the recording has good clarity and doesn't sound muffled like my Battle Sound Skeletor does. It looks like the batteries will be easy to replace, though it has been 4 months and the ones included are still working.
Action! :
Onto the body, one word: wow! This is not the He-man of my childhood. Honestly this shouldnt be called an action figure; it is more of a flipping sculpture.
Battle Sound He-man not only has muscles veins for Pete's sake. Veins! This toy is beautifully sculpted with much better detail and proportion then the original toy line had. You wont find midget legs held in place with rubber bands on Battle Sound He-man.
However I do find the placement of the head annoying. He-man looks like a hunchback, I realize this is supposed to make him look ready for battle, but paired with the look on his face, He-man looks bathroom ready. Seriously with both hands clenched, his head bent forward and that expression...I dont think there is enough fiber in Eternia to fix He-man.
Maybe that is why I dont exactly like the sculpture look, it looks cool for display and looking at but the head thing really bothers me.
I also found his arms hard to move. It's neat that his wrists turn, but most of this figurine was very stiff and hard to pose at first. I was honestly worried I would break him, but now everything moves fairly easily.
Accessorize He-man! :
Battle Sound He-man comes with lots of stuff to loose. A very cool shield, axe and of course the new Power Sword. All weapons fit very nicely into He-mans grip and combined with the turning wrists, make for a very cool and pose able toy. Battle Sound He-man also comes with some sort of plastic removable mantle for around his neck. (To hold the Axe? )
If I were a little kid this would be the first thing I would break or loose. I can just picture that plastic chain splitting in two or three different spots. The package indicates this toy is for ages 5 and up, with small batteries inside no wonder. Not that I think a 5 year old would be able to open the back, but you never know.
This toy also comes with a MotU episode from the original He-man series. My gold armor Battle Sound He-man came with the tape called Dragon Invasion. There was also a silver armor Battle Sound He-man...I think he came with a different video. Good old Mattel at it again with variants.
The Verdict:
For 15 dollars Canadian, you get a well-done action figure and a classic He-man (the real He-man) video. I really don't see how you could go wrong. Overall the action figure is impressive. I cant really complain. Even though I really wanted to, believe me.
My aging thunder Punch He-man still looks like he could whoop Battle Sound He-man. I still miss the old cartoon and I really, really, REALLY wanted to hate the new one. But when I stop comparing the two, it's not so bad.
It's a cool toy really, but it doesn't have the character of the real He-man. It doesnt have that 80s ness about it. It smacks of 2003 but I guess that is what kids like now. If I was a kid in 2003 and didn't know better, I would be happy to have this toy. So that is how I will rate this product, 6 stars.
(Heads off with Thunder Punch He-man into the sunset)
