| sblaydes's Full Review: Mattel My Scene Barbie |
My seven-year-old daughter was pleasantly surprised this past Christmas when she found her My Scene Madison underneath the Christmas tree. (Boy, if she only knew how many stores we had to go to to find this darn doll!) She was even happier when she discovered that Madison had a friend. Yes, Daddy (Oops, I mean Santa!) decided that if she were going to be receiving one My Scene doll for Christmas, then
it really should have a friend. Especially one that looked so much like his little girl with her blue eyes and blonde hair. So that is how My Scene Barbie made it into our household this past Christmas!
~ So what comes with My Scene Barbie? ~
First of all, I liked the box that came with My Scene Barbie. Not your typical Barbie box, this box comes in shades of blue, yellow and rose and makes it quite visible to see on a shelf packed full of Barbie products. Trust me, when searching high and low for the My Scene Madison doll we were very thankful for the different colored box. Like all Barbie products though, it will take you while to get Barbie and all her accessories out of the box!
When you finally have My Scene Barbie out of the box you will note that she is taller than your average Barbie is. I have her measuring in a just a bit taller than twelve inches with her heels on! And what does this blonde hair beauty have on?
~ A pair of red sunglasses that not only look good on Barbie, but
also sit quite nicely on the top of her head when she is not outside.
~ Silver hoop earrings that can come out if pulled. (This is the smallest accessory that comes with this doll. If you have smaller children around the house, use caution as this could pose as a choking hazard.
~ Silver chain around her waist that I can only dream of wearing around a waist that small!
~ Off white leather (simulated) pants with a maroon colored striping. They are flared at the bottom and also have a large slit going up the side that stops right below her knee. To show off her small waist (and silver chain) is the fact that her pants are hip huggers.
~ A maroon/off white colored v-neck shirt that is not only sleeveless, but also is short in the midriff. Its okay; My Scene Barbie can pull off a shirt like this!
~ Maroon leather (simulated) jacket which thankfully is easy for my daughter to change.
~ Platform boots that are maroon in color with a heel in tan.
~ And last but not least, her leather (simulated) purse with strap. The flap on this purse does open up, but
not much could be placed inside.
Also included in the box with My Scene Barbie is the following:
~ Another pair of platform boots. This pair if off white in color featuring a tan heel. They also have a tan flower design on the front of them. If you are wondering if these are hard to place on/off of Barbie, they are not. There is a slit on the back of each pair of platform boots that make is so much easier to deal with. Good thinking!
~ An off white top made of a sparkly material. While I call this a top, it really is more of a tube top since it is just a simple piece of material that wraps around Barbie. (There are no armholes.)
~ Leather (simulated) wrap skirt that is maroonish in color. On the upper portion of this skirt is a braided added on to dress the skirt up a bit.
~ And last but not least, the all famous Barbie hairbrush!
As you may already know, Mattels My Scene line not only includes Barbie, but also her two friends Chelsea and Madison. According to the back of the box, each My Scene doll comes with a two-outfit minimum. While I have heard rumors that more outfits will be available at a later date for the My Scene dolls, I have not yet seen a one. Or have I been able to access any on-line. I can only tell you that my daughter hopes that some day she will be strolling down the isle at her local toy store and come across some. Her birthday is coming in a few short months
hint
hint! The good news is that My Scene Barbies clothes/shoes are interchangeable the other two My Scene dolls.
If your daughter enjoys spending time on the computer, she may want to give My Scene Barbie a front row seat and visit the web site www.myscene.com. Yes, there is a web site specifically for the My Scene Barbie and friends where you can go and send an e-card, check out the latest web cam of Barbie (Or friends Chelsea and Madison!) or even read Barbies diary.
Also, if your daughter is tired of Barbie just sitting around, there is another fun way to display her. Included inside the box of My Scene Barbie is a plastic display stand. We have found this to be a fun way to leave My Scene Barbie on my daughters desk when she is not playing with her. And yes, it actually does work!
~ Is My Scene Barbie a winner in this household? ~
During the course of the past month or so I have noticed that my daughter does enjoys playing with her My Scene Barbie. But, it usually is not her first choice. Her coveted Bratz dolls are usually the first ones to be thrown into the car when running out to do some errands, pick up her big brother from swimming, out to dinner, etc. She really likes the fact that she can change the Bratz doll clothes more frequently. Yes, I am serious. On Tuesdays her favorite Bratz doll will wear its dance outfit, and she especially loves the fact that she can change them into pajamas. So if you are listening Mattel, my daughter really wants some options in clothing choices for her My Scene Barbie!
While this may not be my daughters first choice, I must say that I do like My Scene Barbie which is why I am going to give this doll four stars out of five. I really like the fact that her face is not as funky looking like the Bratz dolls. While My Scene Barbie does feature a larger head, it is not nearly the difference I see in a Bratz doll. I also appreciate the fact that she does not come with eyes and lips packed with makeup. And the last feature that I like, she does not have peg feet. If you have seen the feet on a Bratz doll, you know what I am talking about!
So, all in all
this Mom really doesnt think that you could go wrong with a My Scene Barbie.
Recommended for children age three and up!
Note: I could find no information on My Scene Barbie at the Mattel web site (www.mattel.com) or at the Barbie web site www.barbie.com. Information on My Scene Barbie is available at www.myscene.com.
