| MumMumMum's Full Review: Mattel Princess Barbie |
You would think that since my five-year-old is known as Princess BabyGirl that Princess Barbie would be a perfect birthday gift for her, wouldnt you. My girl received this doll for her birthday last year. What does she think?
Well, Mattel has come up with a doll that has a lot of appeal for my little girl. Standing about 11 inches tall, Princess Barbie is wearing my girls absolute favourite colour. Pink, of course, lots of shimmering pink. Barbie is wearing a pink gown that shimmers and sparkles, a sort of satiny material with a sheer overlay, grosgrain ribbon of pink and silver and lovely gathering in the bodice area. It is actually a pretty ball gown, and my girl does love it. She also likes the pink earrings and pink ring that she is wearing. Did I mention my daughter loves the colour pink? Princess Barbie is also wearing a silver tiara. She is a princess and that tiara proves it, you know! She is wearing pink shoes, which, remarkably, do not come off and therefore will not be a lost item that you will step on in the middle of the night. Yay, Mattel! Although you may find yourself cursing in the dark after stepping on the pink brush that comes along with this set. And thats all there is to it. There are no extras, no more tiny little pieces to lose, to step on, to curse. As always, Princess Barbie has arms and moves that move, and she has the standard long blonde hair. Her hair, very thick and blonde, is done up in ringlets which reach down to her waist, with some pulled back into an elastic.
She really is a lovely doll, and my Princess BabyGirl does play with her. But in all honesty, my daughter dislikes Barbie a great deal, and the only reason she likes this one is because she is a princess and she is dressed in pink. She loves the Disney Princesses, but Barbie is just plain gross to quote my daughter. But this one is a princess, and that seems to suit my daughter just fine. Shes played with it often enough for me to know that she does like it, its just not her favourite thing. The doll has withstood some serious play, her hair still looks quite lovely, and she has remained clothed in her royally pink princess garb. The brush has left the building, I am afraid.
All in all, this would be a great birthday gift for a little girl. Its relatively inexpensive, Ive seen it for ten dollars Canadian in the stores. If theres a little girl in your life who loves Barbie, Id say go for it. If theres a little girl who loves Princesses, well this is probably a safe bet as well.
