We gave Yellow Shining Star to our auburn-haired neighbor for Christmas. She was delighted, and pointed out that there are very few dolls that "look like me." The numerous color and ethnic combinations are a big plus, although sometimes a specific combination can be hard to find. We ended up with three in a search for the "perfect" one, and gave the extras to girlfriends, based on "matches!" Best to order on the web and avoid the running around.

As we all know, sometimes a parent and child's opinion can differ. The girls love the dolls, but I am less enthusiastic. Although Shining Star doll is cute, I do think she is over-priced for what she delivers. Not that this should stop you from buying her if your little one has her heart set on her!!! At almost $30, she cost almost as much as some of the interactive dolls and dolls with loads of accessories. Additionally, her hair is not of particularly high quality, and rapidly acquired that frazzled old doll. Brushing did not help. I would expect at least some color combinations of Shining Star to be available at deep discounts, post-Christmas. At $10 or $15, this doll would be a toy purchase even I could feel good about!!!
